2011 Skoda Fabia vRS Remap!

Featured Replies

hi, looking to get my car remapped! there are so many different tuners, i was wondering if anyone can recommend one? I've always been quite sceptical of remaps, because they almost seem to good to be true! Who wouldn't want more power, torque and mpg!? Just a little afraid that it might affect the car in some way further down the line or cause something to go wrong! Highest average mpg ive got on a decent mostly motorway trip was 45.3mpg, would love if this could be improved, as round town economy doesn't seem great.

I've been quoted £299 by Viezu, who've said i'd get an extra 30bhp or so, plus improved fuel economy. Has anyone else had their fabia remapped? What extra power and/or mpg figures have you got?

Also, my car didnt come with the vrs badge on the front.. anyone know where i can get one?

Thanks!

Mike

If you think that you're going to get 45 mpg when the car's mapped then dream on :giggle: Driven like a Grandad, maybe, but what's the point.

One of the reasons that you remap the car is for more power. The last thing you're going to be doing is concentrating on how much MPG you're getting, but just enjoying the car and the extra fun it is.

If MPG is in your equation, then I'd say forget the remap.

In answer to your question, Revo Technik do a nice remap for the 1.4TSi / Shark Performance as well. (£300 - 450 ish) Stage 1.

Do a search, there's lots of info on remaps.

Obviously i want more power so i can enjoy the car even more, but no harm in wanting a bit extra mpg if you can get it at the same time, on the occasions when you can't always floor it everywhere.

But thanks for the info, and you've got a good lookin car!

APR, Jabbasport or REVO.

Mine always gives 43-47mpg on a motorway. 30-37mpg around town

Sy, I am also looking at Stage 1 very closely and these are the 3 tuners I have narrowed it down to.

Revo is closest for me but I dont mind travelling.

On a purely Stage 1 basis, which of the above would you recommend?

Hava you been on track after you have remapped your vRS ? I am thinking that should i do it, but i want to do trackdays normally and i am not sure how the car works on a longer stints.

My plans for my 61plate (given it comes back running nice from havin the mechatronics replaced) are revo stage 1, lowered and ballast removals. I think with the lowering the ballast removals at the back should not effect the rear end handling (as its lower) correct me if I'm wrong there

Your still going to be removing the weight from the back so it will act a little bit more lively, Ive had my vRS lowered on the 20-30mm eibachs and it does make the car handle better in the corners..

At the end of the day your going to be removing 25Kgs from the rear end so will act differently

sounds like its worth going for a revo one, everyone seems to recommend them. there's a dealer very local to me called the phirm which specialises in vag cars, so think i'll get in contact with them. Has anyone ever heard of Viezu then?

Iv seen some of the cars the phirm have built and would highly recomend them, thev built a good few show winning cars

Just a recommendation, before you go for increased power it might be worth spending some cash on improving the handling first. I find stock power is already excessive for the stock suspension setup, you cannot exploit it properly imho. I think ARB + lowering springs are a "must-do" upgrade for this car even If you don't plan to increase the power.

Agreed. It's called the 'slippery slope'.

I would stop looking at remap and go tmc tuning box. remove before going back to dealers and they are none the wiser where if it was remap would void warrenty with any drivetrain and engine. Aa far as i am aware no guys have had problems with tuning box and i will be getting one once i save the cash up.

but if still want remap look in to apr and revo. there are loads of threads about remaps/ tuning boxes.

cant remembet which member and think it was stage 2 map done, the tuners where requesting 2.0bar from the turbo when it max's out at about 1.6 which can lead to turbo failure pretty quickly.

Tuning boxes are not invisible, if a technician looks at the ECU it will have left a marker.

yea sorry i know forgot to mention. well i have been told it a bit harder to trace that a tuning box has been added unlike a remap where they just have to look at ecu flash count.

Hi Mate

I had my car re mapped by Viezu (http://www.flashremapping.co.uk) but I have a 1.9TDI diesel. They offer lifetime warranty a long as you own the car so if you want to change the map they will do it free of charge. They added 35bhp and 50Nm of torque. They were very helpful and my car is soooooo much more responsive and more powerful...

Because these cars need the ecu removing for a remap, the flash count rremains unchanged.

If they were mapped via the obdII port then there would be a flash count change

Sy,

I remember waiting for my car at Awesome and saw the techie walking over to it with what looked like my ECU and I thought, WTF !!!!:rofl:

Didn't realise they removed it .....

okay well im confused ive read loads about this and im juat repeating what ive read.

so if the ecu needs removing how do i then set back to standard for service etc then back to map after would that not change map count then??

Well with APR you can do it with the cruise control stalk. REVO can alter tge performance of the map to emulate stock performance, otherwise, nip back to your tuner get them to reset it back to the stock map

Does APR switch it back to standard map or standard emulate map?

That's good news, I did not realise that. That makes me feel a bit happier about my warrenty

They have told me its 100% the std map.

When i originally started looking for a remap I narrowed it down to APR, Shark Perfpormance or PTorque in that irder of merit. APR at the time werent very well supported on the UK dealership scene so i had to drop that option. P Torque took an age to reply to my questions, by which time Shark Performance had offered me a free remap in exchange for offering my car for development.

Ive now had 3 maps on my car.

Shark Performance - It was absolutely rapid but i removed it because i wasn't happy with the setup after i found out the requested parameters via VCDS logging.

I then wanted to change map. Tried APR again, but the UK HQ still wasnt up and running and i wanted a new map pronto as i was expecting the worst with my car. Jabba had just provided a remap for a guy off Seatcupranet, who wanted stage 1 power, but torque to remain at stock levels. the managed this perfectly, so i thought they could give me a good custom job.

Jabbasport Custom - I gave Jabbasport a very very awkward criteria to meet with my custom map, and Kev@ Jabbsport hit the nail on the head. I wanted more power, but with much less boost than the shark map, i wanted a linear throttle map applied etc etc. I was very happy with the result.

The night i got back home from getting my Jabbasport custom map, i was approached by Keith @ APR (The vice president of APR USA) who had just moved to the UK where he was personnally heading up APR UK with plans to dominate the tuning market in europe. Finally i could get the adjustable map(via cruise control stalk) that i had wanted from the start.

APR - As it happens i was going to just go for as stage 2+ remap from them, but we had a chat and now, lo and behold it now has a LOBA LO270 turbo fitted to my car with APR software. Im heading down tomorrow to see how they are getting on with it. But ill have 4 maps available to me to switch via the cruise control stalk: Stock, 95 Ron, 99 Ron and a trackday map!!

From what i gather, its been very hardwork, but its apparently rapid. SteveP(The owner of Mk5GTI.co.uk forum) has been in it, he also owns a REVO stage 1 Polo GTI with 215Hp, so a good base for a comparison. He said mine is notably faster than his. Hopefully ill have the final map and figures sorted in the next week.

Other options include REVO, i almost went with them, but ive always been critical and wary of their remaps, so last minute change of mind. Ive driven a few now, and they are quick.

Order of Merit for me

APR

Jabbasport

P-Torque

REVO

Id also deeply consider MRC tuning. These guys are very highly regarded in the BAG tuning scene.

I wonder if APR can retrofit cruise for this reason exactly?

vRSy - thanks for sharing your experience with all the different companies! I enjoyed reading your build thread, and i think i'll definitly now look into APR and Jabbasport. I'm no jeremy clarkson, i probably won't be going on a track anytime soon, and i don't know as much as some of you guys, but just wanted a remap which meant i could have more fun when i put my foot down, smoother responce, that wasn't to aggresive, but at the same time, save a bit of petrol if i am driving sensibly, if possible (although how often i'll be doing this with the extra fun and power i don't know)

I'd modified my previous car, a rubbish citroen c2, and told myself i wouldnt do it when i bought the fab, but the more i read into this forum the more i want to!
