I'm bored of my vrs

Featured Replies

I have the mk1 vrs in black with a remap and mil tech exahast system for the first few months it was fantastic and great fun !! But now I'm used to the power I dunno what else to do to make me poo myself any ideas ???

A mother load of laxatives? :D Seriously this is always the problem with cars of any performance level, you get used to the power, what felt quick a month or two ago now feels slow. Rather than spend money on the car how about doing some track days/IAM and improving your own ability?

Go to a track day with it? Once you've been once you'll never want to stop.

Semi slick tyres on cold damp roads works quite well.

Lots of excitement to be had there. :)

Realistically, you mod the car more or buy something faster.

Or just do a track day or two?

It doesn't matter what you have, you do get used to the performance if you use it regularly.

A weekend toy makes more sense for that reason. You never quite get used to how bonkers it is.

Only buy a faster car if your willing for all your hard earned cash to go out your exhaust, on insurance and tax. I learnt the hard way, but it was fun :) then again, you only live once...

One of the great things about the Shark STS unit is that you can put it back to a standard map. I've done it for this week before a service, my god it feels slow!

I'll appreciate the extra power again though when the performance map goes back on!

Other than that, get yourself on a track day (preferably in the rain - that should keep you amused)

Go and rent a piece of crap car for a fortnight.

You'll be so glad when you get back in the Fabia, you'll swear you'll never even consider selling it again!

Richard, how much are the r888s? Thinking about some of these next time round :) are they really bad in the wet? Are they the only real option for the fab? Do they come in 205 45 16?

Cheers

I see 195/50/16 would be the closest? They wouldn't look too thin would they? And the profile? It's only 5mm really. How good are they in the dry? :) they look class lol

They seem to have recently gone up in price. I paid about £140 last year, but they are now around the £160-170 mark. That's for 205/40/17 which is the closest rolling radius so the standard Fabia VRS wheels in the 17 inch fitment.

No, they are not very good in the wet and really bad if they have not warmed up yet. Plus they don't clear standing water so anything other than a light drizzle can be interesting if there are puddles about. Certainly not a winter tyre, that's for sure!

Not sure about smaller sizes because I've not looked. Best check Camskill.

I've done 3000 miles on them and they are probably about half worn, which is better than I was expecting. Done three track days in that time.

When I bought mine last year I got a spare pair for the front, expecting to get through them quickly. If it's 5000 from a front set and a set of rears every two or three front sets it's not that bad, but only if it's a toy really. Certainly not cost effective for a daily driver.

If I had to use the car more regularly I'd probably give the Toyo R1R a try.

That's my issue really, mines a daily driver altho saying that I'm not hard on tyres at all, so prob a max of 10000 from a set? What do you reckon? I'm also not running anything like the power you have so wouldn't light them up the same. And also come the winter it would not be good lol how bad are they in the wet really? Ok for normal driving say 40ish? I don't like the wet anyway! On camskill the 195/50/16 is like 130-140. I'd just like something very very sticky while being as practical as it can be at the same time? :)

YOur only option is to mod more or buy a crazily fast weekend car! You'll always get Used to the power eventually!

Wilsy7, if I was you I'd probably get a set for track days and events, if you do them. I run them so I can get the power down and due to a fair percentage of my miles being events or travelling there and back. If getting the power down is not a major issue then the only real benefit is being able to pull 1g in the corners. And you can't do that on a public road as there is no margin for error. So for road miles they don't really make sense.

Get a sportsbike...cheapest power/weight ratio you will ever dream of...if you can live long enough !

Starting to agree, the r888 is a bit extreme for me. Have been looking at the r1r, also these http://www.camskill.co.uk/m62b1600s344p59604/YOKOHAMA_TYRES_TRACKDAY_TRACK_DAY_YOKOHAMA_AD08_ADVAN_NEOVA_YOKOHAMA_AD_08_-_205_45R16_83W_TL_

Any other options along the same lines?

Thanks

Sorry for completely hijacking this thread OP

Keep it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a VRS putting out 179bhp & 334lb/ft and got rid of it coz I thought they were getting a bit chavvy. Tried all sorts and ended up with a great deal on an Exeo, which I've had remapped blah blah blah it's still a boring old farts car.

I wish I'd kept the VRS it's the best car I've ever had.

I must admit i was getting bored of mine i while back, but i think it was the fact i was on weitec coilies and 17'' bbs' the ride was getting annoying, 'thud' thud' 'bump' bang' 'ouch my back' oooh ffs!!! etc

so i put her back to standard [except the shark remap /pd160  ] and enjoy driving her more now, guarantee'd it doesnt look as good but ive got another hobby now anyway so im not too fussed :smirk:

Any handling mods? RARB on standard suspension works well and better with lowering springs - Eibachs at least work well...

Check/sort the console bushes whilst you're at it. Some reckon a strut brace will help too.
