VAG COM

Featured Replies

Spoke to my friend today and he said he had a VAG COM I could have. Its a disc for pc and cable to connect to car, is this actually going to be of any use? As saw someone say you need a proper VAG COM to do anything.

If it is of any use i can have it for free

If a cheapo ebay style cable then you will be able to use it in shareware mode to read/clear fault codes. Not sure you can modify/set blocks, etc though.

apparently cost about 40 notes?

You can get the cables on ebay for less than a tenner and the Ross-Tech website has a free version of VAG-Com (VCDS Lite) for download that you can use with the cables:

http://www.ross-tech...load/index.html

From the Rosstech site:

Shareware (unregistered copy of VCDS-Lite):

Cannot do AutoScan

Won't display text for all fault codes

No Basic Settings (so no TBA, Xenon levelling, etc or checking timing on TDI's)

No Adaptation Saving (so no changing of locking/lights/horn behavior)

No Output Tests

No tech support from Ross-Tech

Limitations of VCDS-Lite compared to VCDS even if Fully Registered:

No Generic OBD-II

Won't work with CAN-Bus vehicles

Fewer fault code definitions and label files

No built-in Activation (you'll be limited to a single PC)

No Advanced Measuring Blocks

No Acceleration Measurement

The full version of VCDS is £260

With the free version you can read and clear fault codes and there are a limited number of measuring blocks you can use. You need the full version for all the measuring blocks and to be able to do adaptations. The full version is £260

Sounds like the lite one then.

Its worth having it even just to read and clear fault codes. Assuming you've got a laptop to use it on, otherwise you end up like me having to put your home PC in the car LOL:
