Calling people with coilovers - Weitec Specifically

Featured Replies

I'm after a favour really.

Those who have coilovers fitted, could you take a picture of your rear springs and post it up on here? Preferably along with what type they are.

I'm just trying to get an idea whether mine look right or not as I'm not 100% convinced that it's right somewhere.

I will get a picture of mine up later dude. You got a picture of yours at all? What part do you think is incorrect?

Cheers mate.

I'm just not convinced that the springs are right. The coils don't look evenly spaced.

It's definitely the rear that's clonking on mine, rather than the front like others have had.

Don't know if these pictures will help any?

This is before the springs were fitted

And this is the complete rear set up

Yep, that's what mine looked like before going on the car.

That would be really helpful :)

Ok mate, mine isnt making any noises.

You defo fitted the top mounts back in correctly?

Got any pictures of yours to show me what you mean?

I'd assume so since they were fitted by a garage.

This is what they look like on the car. It's as though the centre coils have stuck together.

Incidentally, this has only been happening after I jacked the car up and swapped back to my summer wheels.

Dude, only just seen this thread. I have Weitec's as well, just been and looked and mine look exactly like yours. I have never had any noises with my suspension, though my fronts do have the protective hose that is on the springs.

I have a feeling that it's those two middle ones which clonk together.

Tonight, if I get back home in time before it's dark, I'm going to tape my mini camera somewhere on the underside so I can video the springs in action.

Hmm... interesting. Hopefully other people with weitecs will post up and we can compare a few more.

Mine are weitec and mine too look the same, no noise on the rear but the fronts (very rarely) make the noise.

OK this is interesting now, I just assumed that it was just mine that would look like that.

ayup sam, i feel obliged to comment seen as they are my old coilovers. i never had the clonking noise with the springs mate, i dont even know if they sat like that, cant remember ever even looking to be fair but never seemed to have the clonking noise you talk of. Hopefully if its an issue its easily sortable fella

Just jacked my car up to swap wheels over, and noticed that the two springs that are touching when there is weight on the suspension, open up when the car is off the ground. Do you yours open up?

I'm not sure. I'll have to have a look after work tomorrow, as that's the only flat place I can really try it and see.

Mine are the older green springs and a couple of coils touch together like yours but open up when it's jacked up and there is no weight on them !

Ok perhaps it's normal that the centres are like that then.

I still need to figure out what's causing my knocking noises. Seriously getting annoying now.

I would start by removing and refitting. Then you know its all fitted correctly etc. Then if its still doing the noise look elsewhere, how about rear beam bushes?

  • Author

Wouldn't know where to start in removing suspension. My only real opportunity to get underneath it is on Saturday, so I'll have to carry on as it is.

Took this vid on the way home from work :(

i dont think that noise is your coilovers! that sounds like there is something catching on a wheel or a drive shaft! CV joint normally make that noise but only when the are nakered!

I have the knocking on the rear of mine as per my other post and a slight height increase on one side (thought this might of been the same) but yours sounds more constant, mines when i hit a bump or dip, tyres perhaps?? something as simple as a stone caught :S? im no expert though

Right, well fingers crossed...this is now sorted.

Was definitely the offside rear that was doing it. Jacked it up and took the wheel off. Had a good look around everything, nothing was loose or seemed wrong. No evidence of anything rubbing anywhere either.

Put wheel back on, problem gone.

Whether it was something that was caught in it, or whether I'd not put the wheel back on right last time, I'm not sure.

The spring also opened up so it's not stuck together. I can only assume that it's meant to be like that.

Opel Corsa! wow - lol.

That noise is very odd and 100% not the coilovers. Can't tell what it is tho.

  • Author

Yep I've no idea what it was. It's been fine this morning too so I assume whatever it was is sorted.

It's going in for MoT and service, along with rear brake change on Monday so I'll get them to check it out anyway.
