Towing Mirrors on the Yeti

Featured Replies

Having towed with my new Yeti for the first time this weekend I find my Milenco Aero towing mirrors don't seem to fit as well as they have on previous cars.

What mirrors do other folks use?

The Milencos are the best mirrors I've used ... and I've tried a fair few different ones over the years ... maybe I'm just needing to play around with them some more.

I tried a friends Milenco's and was not at all happy with them. I couldn't seem to get them secure. It was as if the bar needed bending slightly to get a good fit. I've ended up with the "stick-on" type, where the pad rests on the mirror and you turn the cup to make a seal. Not found a problem with them at all, even at "slightly" illegal speeds. Plus you can adjust them with the electrics!

I've always been a bit afraid of those ones Graham.

Might be worth a look though.

Hi

I also use the stick on ones. As long as the mirror is clean, they seem to work okay.

I used my fathers ones from his Disco and they were not very good, but they just about stayed on, they use rub her bands to stay in place. I might consider buying something else for next time as we plan on nicking it on a regular basis.

I was suspicious of them at first, but I fitted them before we went to France last year, and was happily surprised. At our first comfort break, after about 2 hours, I checked the tightness of them and gave them a little tweek to make sure they were fixed, then didn't touch them until we got to the camp site. I even folded the mirrors in when we were on the ferry with no problems. I did make sure the mirrors were really clean first though.

I thought they might vibrate, but even at French motorway speeds they were almost rock steady.

Im using Emuk mirrors, they fit perfectly.

90€ each or for a pair?

for a pair

They look neat but how do they fit? I think I saw a picture of them with a metal plate that fits inside the glass?

Riversway Leisure has some of the Emuk mirrors to clear, but none for the Yeti ... or any Skoda model for that matter.

I'll have another go with the Milencos ... if no good I'll try the stick on ones.

No need to spend 90E. I contacted Milenco, and on their advice purchased a pair of their Aero2 flat mirrors. Got them from Van+, a dealer on Ebay for £38.50. Although I haven't driven with them on yet, I've no doubt they'll be good. They clamp on to the lip surrounding the glass - there's a narrow tapered wedge to the bottom half of each clamp, which slides in between the glass and the mirror body, and they do grip extremely tightly. Problem solved...

Now towed 5 times with the Yeti now .

Have kept going with the Milencos, sometimes get them spot on, other times they are a pain! My friendly caravan dealer suggested mounting them upside down, with the clamps on the bottom of the mirror. This worked OK but the actual mirror head sat quite far back behind the car mirror and I had to crouch a bit to get a good view so have gone back to using them the conventional way.

Will maybe buy a set of cheapies as they are driving me nuts every time I fit them ... we caravan a lot so it is a real pain!

Iain,

I thought we'd get a scan of your outfit from the magasine? :hi:

Nice outfit.

Those don't look like the Milenco's I tried. Perhaps they are later ones.

Popped over here from UK CS :hi:

Great pic Iain. Your van looks like it was designed by Skoda to match !

You need the Milenco GRAND Aeros !! they look big and ugly (mount them vertically BTW) but they are rock steady, much better than the small ones. (and all the other ones I have tried)

I have mine on the longer arms, and when I fit them I almost don't have to reajust them each time.

I have a couple of big hooks inside the front locker of my caravan, high up at the top which I use to keep the roll out awning poles and side curtains on, and I hook the mirrors over these when they are not in use.

Have towed thousands of miles through France etc both with the Yeti and with my previous car (Tucson) and these mirrors are super, no vibration, good vision - though a coat of 'rainex' helps as they are not heated!!

Drove one of the CC test vehicles at Excel in Feb that had the small ones on and found them a bit useless, suggested they got got the Grand Areos.

+1 for Milenco GRAND Aeros.

Now started 3rd season of towing with no problem whatsoever after working out how to fit them first time.

I could be talked into the grand aeros! Have looked at them before but couldn't justify buying them as the standard aeros worked perfectly on the Octavias ... will hot foot it to my dealers ASAP with my 10% off card in my hot little hand! Need a new leisure battery too as the current one is getting a bit long in the tooth and is getting a bit puffed out when using the mover. Ho hum ... it's only money!

Or maybe Sterling had the Yeti made to match! Thanks for your kind comments .... have to say it attracts a lot of comments on site.

With a almost a full seasons towing under our belts with the Yeti (three more trips to go this year ... maybe more!), I stuck with the Milenco Aeros ... with the brackets quite close together and slackening off the turnscrews further than before they fit fine. Just needed to find the knack I guess.

Hi Ian,

I've got Milenco Aeros and the fit and are secure but the view behind is not the greatest. It is not as good as my old Smatnord ones.

The old SMAT ones were good weren't they.
