2.0 tdi vrs

Featured Replies

hi all i am new to this forum. and i am seriuosly considering buying a octavia tdi vrs on an 07 08 or 09 plate now i know that the engine is a vw group tdi but my concern is that it suffers from the same oil pump drive failure that the audi a3 a4 and a6 suffer from . is it a problem within the skoda range any info would be appreciated

Welcome to Briskoda!

The Octavia isn't affected by the oil pump failures. It is a common misconception discussed quite regularly on here.

I think older Superb’s are affected by the Octavia definitely isn't.

If you are looking at 07, 08 and 09 diesel vRS's you will have a choice of either the PD or CR engines. Make sure you test drive both as they are very different to drive!

I was in the same situation as u , I drive a 07 pd and drive a 09 and 11 cr and after lots of taught I went for the 07 pd as it feels quicker and gave me way more of a buzz. Some say the cr is better but I'm not convince as the cr felt like driving a 115 bhp passat to me.

:giggle: +1, me too, I could have stretched to an 2008 CR but after driving both engines the 'PD punch' proved too much to resist!

Punch doesn't mean quicker though. My Dad's Golf tdi 130 has a good punch but it's not really quick, it just feels like it should be. Hard to describe.

As for CR vs PD I preferred the CR. After the initial torque shove of the PD there's not much else whereas the the power delivery of CR is more linear and petrol like.

Anyway the CR is way more refined and thats what you will notice the lack of when you gets used to the PD punch, refinement!

I found little difference between my old chipped PD150 and the CR170 against the clock but measured by the ear....

I like to hear what my engine is doing :giggle:

If you drive a PD properly then it can be every bit as refined as a modern diesel, if just a little more audible!

Had a mondeo st with cr engine, was a little put of when test drove octavia, initially sounded noisy in comparison but much prefer the punch the pd gives overall it lets you know the engines working and deffo gives you a grin when you overtake LOL

yep smiles and tpm (tyres per mile) higher with PD

Maybe there both the same power wise but the pd power band is unreal and it really does trow u into the seat,my next vrs will have to be a cr in 2 years or less but I'll have to just get it remapped or something to wake it up :)

I am hoping DPF removal will wake CR up! Quite liking the lack of smog though scared to change it unless gains are significant

thanks for the replies very helpful . at the moment i have an a4 1.9 tdi pd remapped to about 165 bhp i think it is a cracking engine and nice and slmple compared to some in the vw range yes its a bit audible at start up but good mpg and loads of pull so i think i will have to test drive both the cr and the pd . its good to know the oil pump issue does not affect the skoda range that was my main concern . is there any weak points i need to check when i go to view also i intend to check it out with vcds would you think sellers would have a problem with me plugging this into their cars . and if they have should i walk away

Remapped vag engines never really put out what they say so ur better to buy the big bhp to start with, iv drove 1.9 golfs apparently mapped to 160 bhp and my vrs would blow them away.

Drive both but try drive the pd first and then u will see the downer in the cr when u drive it.

I think the PD will make you smile more  Let us know what you think of both.

There is no difference performance wise between the two IMO and neither made me smile. They just deliver the torque and power in a slightly different way. The CR is far more refined though. Both are under powered so if you want to smile get a tsi and then remap it.

It has woken my Mates PD up and almost no smoke..............So I'm Told

Well I have to say that both made me smile.

It's the torque, well obviously, the push in the back after remap is impressive albeit for a brief few seconds. I remember the first time my mate drove my remapped PD he said the push was similar to his M3 (E46) but only for that 1500 revs to his 4000!

Hello sbt and welcome along

I agree I drove a vrs pd with dpf removed and it was unreal quick , if mine ever goes I'll get it removed.

Hi mate & welcome along....

I had an 07 vRS (pd) for 18 mths and had no issues whatsoever. It really was a super car and you will be well pleased if this is your choice. As others have said the CR is smoother and less "diesel like" if that makes sense...?

Looks like the pd is winning this tread lol, I'm not sure why people say the cr is smoother as my pd is very smooth.

Compared to what?

My factory standard PD170 goes like **** off a shiny shovel!

+1 my factory standard pd170 +bluefin goes like **** off a really shiny shovel ! will deffo have dpf removed if it gives issues

Had a real world experience against 06 tsi, overtook him as was running late to pick wife up but wasn,t prepared for him to then stick to my bumper, fair enough he would have got past on the straight (he was trying but thankfully straights weren,t long enough ) but out of the bends wasn,t a lot in it so pd held its own

Before all the tsi /tfsi owners jump in, this was just a experience i had ! the petrols are deffo quicker cars and nearly as efficent these days considering derv prices now, but im getting on a bit (45) and i prefer lazy power just push the loud pedal and go past no down changing required unless you want to rub it in

I wasn't necessarily comparing, I just felt that my old cr was underpowered and not quick enough. Before my CR I had had a vRS TFSI and the CR was a let down compared to that. I had my CR remapped which took it to 204bhp and 400nm and that made it comparable to my previous tfsi but it still struggled to keep with a leon fr. I finally got sick of it when I couldn't shake of a Mazda 6, and no it wasn'an mps.
