New Skoda SUVs- bigger, and smaller than Yeti

Featured Replies

I think many will disagree with the off road comment.. Yes it needs more ground clearance and better on / off ramp angles on the front and rear - but off road it works very well.

A larger suv does appeal for a large active family, not sure we need smaller though..

Approach and departure angles are very good for the class.

The let down is the ramp-over angle and the fording depth.

Ground clearance is adequate, and generally similar to other similar vehicles. What it does do is teach you read, assess, and choose your route with care.

Car magazine covers this too. For the bigger SUV, one name being proposed is 'Snowman' Their joking right? :giggle:http://www.carmagazi...new-Skoda-4x4s/

Funny every other article, including a recent 4x4 mag sings nothing but praises! More slack reporting?

Makes an interesting read - especially the bit about the Yeti not being too good off-road!

The "not so great off-road" comes from Skoda's own Technical Director,

Eckhard Scholz

- let's hope he does an even better job next time!

Snowman is not scary, well Aled Jones is slightly.

Anyway, how is the Yeti a cocktail of Golf and Polo?

I would love to know how "attractive" would the price be for the large'un.

If like the Yeti which is slightly more than the Octavia, it would be brilliant if it cost just slightly more than the Superb.

My experience of the Yeti is that it is brilliant offroad.......

I know the ramp angle could be better as could the ground clearance, but it is similar to others in class as Llanugraham said.

I know from experience that the fording dept could be better.

If I keep mine for more than 3 years then it would end up with a lift kit and larger diameter tyres, giving it about 42mm extra ground clearance, a snorkel for fording, and I'm sure I could think of other things :giggle:

Skoda bigger SUV 2014:

~4.6m, 2.0TSI, higher seating position, ~500l boot, >22cm ground clearance... just my wish list.

The Nissan Qashqai is in fact smaller than the Yeti (by interior volume). So this mooted smaller version will just compete with that and won't be as small as the (too small) Nissan Juke I suspect. The next Yeti can grow slightly to be 200mm longer and compete with the Tiguan leaving a Touareg sized Škoda to fill the gap at the top.

A slightly smaller 3 door Yeti would fill the gap left when the popular 3 door Rav4 was discontinued.

No Daihatsu Terios now either.Only thing I can think of in that sector is the Suzuki 3 door Grand Vitara?

And they don't exactly sell like hot cakes either - when is the last time you saw one? No there will never be (or never should be) something as daft as a 3 door Yeti. If you want a 3 door buy a coupe car. I think by smaller it still means a five door.

Sounds good
