Just running in this awesome car. Read up on pretty much everything here. I'm running in at the moment. I have done 500 miles this week, varied speed and nothing over 4k revs. Great site, thanks for the info.

Quick question. Is there a way to permanently disable the DRL's? ie I don't even want them on as side lights? Ta

edit to clarify: I have already disabled the DRL mode using the switch in the fuse box, im looking at disabling them full stop, with headlights on, there is too much light at the front of the car, and im keen to not have people giving me the "you have got your fog lights on you wide boy" flash every time i pass someone.

Yes there is a rocker switch on the right under the steering behind a cover with the fuses.

YOU BEAT ME TOO IT.

The switch turns them off so that they're not permanently on, but they'll always come on with the main lights.

Oh, and welcome to the site

Thanks guys. Just to clarify, the DRL's are already disabled as per the switch in the fuse box. I'm wondering about how to turn them off full stop. I'm assuming if I disconnect them at the bulb end that I will get a bulb warning on the maxi dot?

First mod was done already, callipers painted black and the black monte grill top (where the badge is) converted 'back' to chrome.

Im going for the sleeper look. :)

I've read all about maxi dot, dsg trouble, running in, v power (was already a convert to it on my Octavia tsi)

One other prob I have and ive not seen t mentioned....

My swing radio and midi sometimes has a wobbler with my iPhone. It's quite retro as it sometimes sounds like a cassette being chewed! To explain for the younger digital age viewers, the sound goes all wobbly. Very odd!

Cheers

If you want the full chrome look, you can have my chrome lights and I'll have your black ones ;)

Is the only difference the colour? ie are the bulbs and projection units the same? I read that some

Folks find them dim. First time out in the dark last night I thought they were going to scorch the grass they were that bright! Full beam even more so!

I 'may' consider a swap. Let me think on that one.

Excuse the ridiculous spelling. My iPhone is failing at autocorrect. Stoopid iPhone.

They are different mate, mine are H7 and i think yours are H4, Mine has 2 bulbs low and high beam where yours has one bulb that is used for low and high that moves (or a shutter in the way moves when you select high beam) can't remember which one the black lights are.

I'm pretty sure that they are swappable there is a plug that you plug into the headlight assembly that's the same on both. One lad on here has done the swap from chrome to black

Thanks for describIng the differences. I'm having flashbacks to the lights on my old VW bora which had the same power as a single tea light on each corner :(

Haha

I went for HID's and they are perfect with the projector style headlights

So any ideas about the MDI and chewy cassette noises then?

can't say I've experienced that an I use my iPhone a usb stick and Bluetooth audio (not all at once lol). Make sure the connector is in all the way on both the iPhone end and the MDI end as it does put a bit of a strain on the plugs when you put the phone on the little shelf.

Apart from that make sure your on the latest IOS this was a problem with Bluetooth audio in my last car.

Cheers chap, the confusing part is that it makes digital sound almost analogue. next i will be hearing scratches like on my vinyl. i will have a check on the connections. cheers

Hello and welcome :hi: .

When i first started using my ipod nano through the MDI the sound was terrible until some very helpful person on here told me to change the AUX level to 1 and since then its perfect. Might not be your problem but worth a try maybe.

Change mdi volume to quiet, i had the same problem after an anoyying mate fiddeled around with the settings

also see the thread entitled iphone vs MDI

Welcome! Glad you like the car

Hi Jazzleman,

As far as I know a car must have working side lights to pass an MOT.

Maybe there is a way to modify the existing head lights to use the other areas in the head light unit. Im sure there are threads about this? I havnt really looked into it tho as I like the DRLs, I would have prefaired the Sides to be in the usual place instead of in the ";Fog light" position.

I wouldnt let the people flshing at me bother me.

It has only happened once to me and it was by a merc, which had DRLs on!!!  And the police in the first week of me owning the car. not happened since, as they are a lot more common on other cars now.

why wouldnt you want DRL's on?

1) its safer. and everything that goes with that. the safety of others, pedestrians, yourself and your family.

2) its going to be the norm, as all new cars will have them

3) people flashing you are just ignorant idiots - why on earth would you pander to them?

4) I think they look good! I really notice the other cars with them citroen ford ect... much more visable = safer.

5) as said above, I beleive you may need sidelights to be legal.
