UPD P2 - 4 1/2 years And Now DPF!

Featured Replies

Came on this morning quickly followed by the workshop light. Had a 50 min journey ahead on A roads so used lower gears etc.

Workshop light went off after 15 mins and near the end of the journey the DPF light went out so phew!

Few questions.

Is my DPF now empty or below the problem threshold? In guessing it's worth doing a few longer journeys?

I'm doing a lot more short journeys now so would super derv make any difference?

Does super eco driving not help dpf's? As in always low revs etc?

Cheers!

I would say the DPF is below the level for the light to come on, not empty

8th of April I'm doing a 500 mile round trip (coming back 2 days later). Do you think that will empty it completely?

The DPF is a filter & wont last forever. how many miles have you done ??

30k.

I don't think it will empty it but it will do it some good.

I think using Quality diesel helps, not Morrisons Cr@p ( awaits a slating on Morrisons fuel)

Fill with V-Power or at least fuel save before your 500mile trip.

I use V and Fuelsave exclusivly and have never had an issue and only noticed a 'non invasive' (no light) regen once in 26k.

You have a PD though so i would expect more issues with the DPF on yours i'm afraid.

The light going off is a good thing though.

Good fuel and and occasional thrash is even better.

Under the OP name it states his Vrs is a CR, not a PD

I have the CR TDI.

So how many miles will empty a dpf then if 500 doesn't? Most of it's life has been on Supermarket fuel with occasional 'treats'.

Is it the revs that regenerate or does the speed matter?

I'm 30mins from a m-way (do have DC's though) so could I just sit at 40mph in 3rd?

It is between 2000-2500 for optimum isn't it?

Driving in a lower gear between a certain rev range is listed in the owners book.

I treated my DPF to a lil clear today after a month or 2 of town driving. That should have done the trick for mine I hope.

It will never empty as the engine is constantly produces particulates. The temperature of the DPF if high enough will burn off these particulates reducing it to an acceptable level. You must have been doing a lot of short low rev journies to get the light on, on a CR.

I would suggest ditching the supermarket fuel for starters and get some decent diesel in there.....I find Shell Fuel Save or Esso the best MPG wise compared to others (not starting a fuel debate on here - its been done to death - this is my experience).

Speed doesn't matter - it is the revs upping the temp of the exhaust system.

I'm going for Shell stuff at next trip.

I have done a fair few short journeys recently and yesterday the fans stayed on twice after 2 short journeys so I guess it was trying to do something then.

Whats classed as a short journey? Minutes wise?

One that doesnt allow the coolant and engine oil to reach normal running temperatures id say and in my CR today in the sun it still took 14 miles to get it up to temp.

Yep thats still doing passive regens....the one with no light but still injecting fuel into the manifold to try and increase exhaust temps. Maxidot on 85+ means it is warm.

I would say anything under 10-15 miles is a short journey.

How do I get oil temp? I have maxidot but there's no oil gauge is there?

Edited by ardandy

Ah you prob haven't got it on the pre facelift. It is an option on the maxidot.

The exhaust warning light is on too, is that expected with this or could it be a dodgy sensor?

Could be Exhaust Pressure sensor or the DPF sensor:

If you look to the left of the filler cap you will see a little black bracket - attached to this is the sensor.....If yours says made in US then its probably a duffer.....Around £55 from a dealer.

Whats happened today:

DPF Light came on with exhaust light in morning

exhaust light went out after 10 mins driving

DPF light went out after 40 mins driving

Return journey:

DPF light came on with exhaust light again

DPF light went out after 20mins driving

Stopped car:

Exhuast light came on (no DPF)

Drove for 1 hour (engine already warm before) and did 17 miles on a dual carriageway plus little town driving

Stopped 1 mile from home:

Exhaust light still on, DPF light came on again

Got home.

Logically to me it sounds like a sensor. Just taken this from under my bonnet, is this the sensor you mentioned?

Yep thats the one and US :(

First port of call would be that sensor ASAP before it screws up the DPF.

If you have Skoda assist give them a call - say it keeps going into limp mode with DPF and Exhaust light on....They should carry the revised part on board their vans...

Cars 4 1/2 years old so no Skoda assist. I am in AA though.

I thought the CR was younger than 4,5 years? Am I wrong?
