Featured Replies

Sorry to hijack! My Columbus (2010 car) is 4 figure postcode. Dealer tells me it can't be upgraded to 7 figure.

Is this true or can I update?

Thanks.

Can't see any reason why it can't be updated. Take a look at the VW Navi forum an seek out Josi (he's on here occasionally).

Pre-FL generally need new CAN, Early FL seem to need coding (as do pre-FL), but late (2010+?) models do not generally need coding unless you want full Maxidot integration. Even then, it is pretty simple (I believe - I haven't done any new models yet).

Well I would never pay the money skoda want for them and pity people that do.

I bought mine off a fellow member and fitted like fubar did in about 10 mins. Everything worked apart from maxi dot integration. 5 mins on vcds and a tick box checked it was fully operational.

Would have to agree with jrw (did I actually just say that?). I wanted sat nav in mine when I ordered it but £1200 at discounted rate was still way too much.

Its on my list of mods this year once the fabia has been sold.

Do it

+1

Possibly one of the best mods you can do to the car.

+another 1

Prob the biggest saving over factory fitted mod you can do yourself and one of the fastest/easiest possible. With a thinner screw driver I could swap them back within 60 seconds all in no dramas.

Good job buddy :)

Hi fubar. Just fitting Columbus to mine. Untill I get Ariel spitter, which connection did u use on back headset? Help needed.

I own VCDS and am in NL during the week. Depends on how far we are away from eachother.

Beware of the dutch, had one smashed window and an attempt to break into the car (the VRS equipped with a columbus). (two big holes in the door)

Stealing in car stuff is an issue in NL!

Luckily they still left the A6 in peace (a whole lot more difficult to remove the ICE/navigation system)

That would be cool I am only 100km from you as is Leverkusen isnt far over the Rhine from Cologne I don't think and im less than an hour from Cologne. :hi: I could pop over easily to you.

It's an 08model, pre fl. There are two connectors . Seen somewhere in a post, lead available.

Leverkusen is exactly in the middle of Cologne and Düsseldorf, on the east side of the Rhine.

I am at home this weekend, just send me a pm. You are welcome! And it shouldnt be too difficult to find with the Columbus.

Next week will be a problem, as I will be off to Switzerland.

The pre fl models didnt have antenna diversity, so only one FM antenna.

You will either need an extra antenna or an adapter/splitter. The splitter has a disadvantage

it will limit the use of TMC and the FM reception.

I used to have a windshield mounted extra antenna (Bosch Autofun modified to be activated over the columbus)

Thanks for that. Assume Ariel just plugs into other socket.

Cheers fellas. Ill have a look at the links and sure i can sort it now.

I transferred my Columbus from my wrecked MKII to my brand spanking new FL and VRS CARL coded and upgraded the firmware. All features including climate display and PDC and thats on a four year old unit!

Best thing you can add to an Octy and I'd be lost without mine!

How did you manage to modify it to be activated to work with Columbus? I'm researching this at the moment so that I can improve the TMC reception as well as FM (we have a few dodgy patches amongst the hills here).

If you have only one aerial connector in the back of the current stereo, then plug it into the one nearest the middle of the Columbus.

If you have two aerial plugs in the old stereo, you will need one of these to maintain the Diversity function.

Someone here in Germany modified it for me to have the "phantomeinspeisung" (dont know another word for that in no matter what language....)

He removed the antenna cable and the plus lead and soldered a lead in with the fakra plug. What he did exactly, I dont know. I am more the mechanical man as the electrical.

Just googled:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_power

You need a UKW drossel, think it is translated in a CMC. This is the one he used:

http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/501656/UKW-DROSSEL-FUeR-NETZANWENDUNG-40UH-03-A/5418131&ref=list;jsessionid=DC1AA68F3EE28AE78848937A3648CCF0.ASTPCCP2

Than a plug:

http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/741124/SMB-CRIMP-WINKELSTECKER-FUeR-RG-174-VERG/?ref=search

The "drossel" is conected between the points in the red circles:

Than you will have to change the plug at the end of the antenna wire with the SMB plug.

The + lead can be entirely removed from the antenna base.

All this with courtesy of the German Octavia Board, especially member TorstenW.

Thanks for that. I'll look into it a bit further.

See my post, put some extra links an information in it
