  • Luckily mine came with a Columbus when i bought it from the dealers (ex- demo). Unluckily its only got the first part of the post code search function. Although that can be upgraded I beleive. Best

  • Well I would never pay the money skoda want for them and pity people that do. I bought mine off a fellow member and fitted like fubar did in about 10 mins. Everything worked apart from maxi dot inte

Hi KB photo,

Noticed from Herefordshire like myself. Only just fitted columbus to mine and was going to order splitter lead. Dont know what reception is like on mine yet but would be interested to see how you get on with yours. I assume the signal is halved when splitting it, just been on short journey and radio reception seemed no worse than before with the stream. Going to work out how to transfer some music on to it later......

I'll keep an eye out for your Vrs - what colour?

Don't bother with the splitter lead unless you have two aerials (FL) installed in your car. I bought one, tried it without using it and it worked fine (plug aerial into the Columbus socket nearest the middle of the stereo for FM / TMC).

Radio reception was no different what I changed from Stream MP3 to Columbus. It just annoys me that I can't get decent FM reception in certain areas and that I occasionally have to tune into a different station and then back to lock on to some stations at start up...

Transferring music is pretty easy. Insert SD card, navigate to that and press the 'file' button at the end of the folder name. This will allow to to 'copy' (one of the options) it to another location.

If you need any VCDS stuff doing, drop me a PM. I'm near Hereford most days until summer.

Race blue estate on private reg. Just transfered a music file and all seems ok. Might take you up on offer sometime, will pm you. Have to say chuffed to bits so far with columbus. I had already ordered a lead, but using radio ok at the moment. Unfortunately this area is poor for reception of most signals, DAB etc. I get annoyed also. Going to transfer some more tunes now. Enjoy the sunshine :)

Welcome to my world of Columbus novelty mania :sun:

See my post, put some extra links an information in it

Linking two converging threads together, I have additional information from Josi on the same subject. I'll update the other post with new info as it keeps this thread more directly related to the OP's question.

The OP had a question?????

Just a small one, but that will be answered tomorrow :giggle:

Yes it will . Gave the car a wash today (bloody pollen has started) and had to almost fight for the car wash as a very ignorant Dutch man decided he could skip the que I and 2 other cars had been waiting in for 20-30 minutes. :@ didn't end well/ :wall:

Question / Point! Just a technicality... Sorry.

My hijacking his thread wasn't right so it made sense to get out the way and link to a more appropriate thread.

Fubar, where did you mount the antenna? Was it on the metal bracket behind the air blowers? If so, I presume you popped them out and mounted it on that and ran the cable to the back of the unit did you similar to the link you have linked to?

Also, the facia that is on the Beloero that needs replacing with the Columbus style one, how did this pop off, was it from the top, or from the bottom like under the bottom near the ash tray? Did you use a proper trim removal tool or a credit card or something to get it to unclip?

Also, I see people are mentioning a twin aerial, presume that doesnt apply to current model cars like yours does it? Is it just one aerial removed from Bolero and put straight into the Columbus?

Sorry, for all teh questions, my Columbus is coming soon and just want to make sure I have all the correct bits for it when it arrives.

Thanks :-) James

Gps receiver goes on the metal rail behind the top box/vents, I did this using double sided tape to ensure it didn't come adrift.

Surround pulls of easiest from bottom, all I do is open the ash tray, put my finger tips under the trim and pull then work it off up the sides.

If you currently have only one aerial then you may want to invest in a fakra splitter from eBay (circa£10) this will allow you to retain am radio.

Trim pops up from the bottom, just pull it!

Remove the glovebox and feed the aerial through and stick it on the metal bar behind the glovebox. About a 10min job all in all!

Emmmmm I am trying for a quick reply so if I miss something I apologise in advance.

1). With the top glove box thing removed you can see the ducting that supplies top dash centre air vents just behind that is a metal rail I simply made sure it was clean with a quick wipe of the old Mk1 finger then with some double sided sticky afixed it on top of it plug went into back of columbus from there no dramas.

2). Popping off the centre console fascia surround is so much easier than you think and little risk of breaking it. I opened the ash tray style cubby hole at bottom to afford better grip to the under edge and gentle pulled forward it popped out then used a blue nylon trim removal tool I ordered on ebay for about £1.99 to go around the edges to pop rest out.

3). Double ariel stuff as I am aware only applies to the older models as the Bolero has the double plug one already as it has that TMS or TMC traffic message thing so its a straight plug in no dramas there.

4). Additionally when you first remove the centre console trim fascia thingy ma bobby you will obviously see the Bolero sitting there in dash but what I hadn't read on here was that the 4 screws which I expected to then see waiting for my (T40 I think) were not there the entire front of the Bolero itself must also be removed to show the screws I simple used both hands and gripped around its edges all 4 corners and pulled gently and it popped off this then gives access to the 4 screws holding it in. Simply once removed put the bot you removed back on.

Good luck in fitting the best cost saving after factory option sod paying the £1650 odd Mr Skoda thinks its worth!!!!!! pics when done please :D

Perfect, thanks for the quick replies chaps, I remember taking the facia off my old Touran to do a radio swap and that was similar seems flimsy, but is surprisingly sturdy when you pull the facia, the antenna seems easy enough, I have some velcro in the cupbaord that will do :-) And I hadnt thought about the front of the Bolero being removed, does that literally just pull away gently and once it comes away reveal the torx screws does it?

My car was built yesterday, so am hoping it will be with me for July 1st!

Dont want mats and flaps as my freebies from the dealer, so have asked for the replacement facia plate, coding for the maxidot navigation display and for them to get the windows tinted!

Thanks for the help chaps :-)

Yea comes away easy peasey. BTW mats are not optional extras on the VRS they are part of the base VRS spec make sure they don't half inch them on you!

Dread to think how many people have paid for mats and also maxidot on DSG models.

No dont worry, I got mats and flaps on my last ones as I wanted rubber ones for the winter and the carpet ones for the summer, the rubber ones will come out of this one for the new one, plus the boot protector and the mud flaps :-)

Just took a couple of pics of the old bolero to show what I mean about fascia on radio itself needing removed. just pulls off evenly no dramas.

Normally the ones that change hands on the forum are ones that were bought as an upgrade like we have all done then taken out returned to stock for selling car get money back selling the columbus on. Unless these people are paying £1600 then selling car with a massive hole in middle of dash lol.

one of 2 places I was playing off each other when ordering the car offered to "throw in floor mats" right near the end of my negotiations where I had beaten them down to beating each other by a fiver so I told him what I thought of that cheeky offer and took my business to the other ones :D
