Octavia tdi ASV need new conrods

Featured Replies

hello everyone,

Have ovtavia 1.9 TDI engine code ASV, turbo recently failed and filled cylinders with oil. Replaced turbo and engine runs but misfires and chucks lot of blue smoke out. Cylinder 4 conrod bent and now need new one or ones? Wonder if anyone know if modified stronger conrods are aviable for this engine if not DOES ANYONE HAVE 1 or 4 for sale here?????

regards

Better off looking for a salvage engine I would have thought.

Upgrade to the 130 ASZ engine. Just an idea!

Don't think that it is quite that easy due to the differences in the injection system (injection pump vs unit injectors on the pd). Might need a different fuel tank as the pd has an electric lift pump which I don't think the ASV engine has.

really i just want to buy parts, fix engine and flog it. I really did think that old type vw diesel engine is more durable than pd engine, but searching the net all vw engines have various problems.

VE pump engines suffer from bent conrods, fuel pumps

Pd engines with premature camshaft failure and pd injector units

New CR engines very frigale

Thanks

Usually, the conrods are very strong, but obviously the oil incident here might have subjected them to too much pressure? It would be a better idea to find a complete ASV bare longblock to avoid excess labour hours. Shouldn't be too expensive to find a decent one as its an old engine style and not really much demand for them usually.

PS: The PD camshaft issue is relatively rare, seeming to target the 150 engine the most. PD injector units barely ever fail. Don't think I'm aware of one actually "breaking".

good idea but have to buy bare block with pistons and conrods somewhere, still in process of looking. Yes i agree conrods are strong parts, but on these ASV engines turbo VNT mech is very common fault and this is what killed my engine. Have friends and know several other people using vag cars with pd engines, and almost all had problems with injectors, injector looms, camshafts, bolts holding injector down broken, turbos etc..... some have skoda, audis, vdubs's 90, 110-115, 130 and 150 pd with problems around top end area.

Lil bit dissapointed in vw diesel engines really

Plus the 130 has a fuel cooler too (for return fuel to the tank).

You cannot compress oil or water, so bent conrods are likely in any engine where it has found its way into the cylinders.

This is rare, because the clouds of black smoke are a big clue to failed turbo oil seals.

i know that you cannot compress liquid in any engine with internal combustion, specially diesel ones once the rely on high compression to ignite atomised diesel.

i know this could have happen in any turbo powered engine, not just mine but still dissapointed vw engines

There was no signs or hints that engine was emitting-either black or blue smoke. Engine just died during the driving.

Black smoke normally indicates unburnt fuel, not a turbo failure as such.

Anyway, does anyone know where can i get seconhand conrods to buy at fair rate?

My local scrap yard has a diesel octy in with the engine in. Where about are you m8?
