mk 7 Golf GTi - 217bhp

Featured Replies

I never said I was an expert tuner and yes being a mechanic might help!

Is there anything else u want to get of ur chest while ur on a roll?

I was simply comparing tuning companys in Ireland can be a bit of a joke that's it!

Rant over :)

Anyway u were saying about the 140 golf mapped, was it impressive compared to ur vrs?

I don't really like to talk about my dark days of owning a diesel vrs but yes the remapped 140 golf was impressive in comparison. The tsi vrs remapped is in a different league entirely though. As I said, the difference between standard and stage 1 is like night and day. Mine never fails to impress and I can honestly say, in 6th gear it's as quick as anything I've been in.

  • Where's this 200Kg loss info come from anyway? A credible source? On the issue of stock power, the previous generation Astra VXR was a prime example of power not being the answer to everything. Yes i

  • 217bhp and around 200kg lighter thanks to new platform. It's not all about figures

  • Maybe slightly slower but a damn sight better in quality, build and ride comfort. :p Luv ewe xxxx

The stage 1 vrs TSI is MUCH quicker than the stock.

Also the VAG hatch range looks pretty poor compared to the competitors in terms of power. Hence why I have an S4 on route, it's the only way to go for power and quality with 4WD. Shane as its bloody pricey.

Why we are on the subject about re map

How much faster is a mapped vrs, 0 60?

I have looked and a blue fin is £500?

Massively, I think the standard vRS is about 17.5 secs for 0-100 mph. With some not very technical timing, mine is between 12.5-13 now, so a huge improvement.

Still say the Vrs and golf gti are slow compared to the ST and VXR its time to step up to the plate, the new Astra VXR is going to be cracking.

I'm with you, a friend has a remapped Vectra VXR and I'm sorry but that is one quick sorted car, forget clarkson it is seriously fast and handles well with IDS and I couldn't keep anywhere near him. My brother has an ST and as my car is standard and so is his they are equal, I mean seriously equal we have tried.........on a private road his just pulls away @100+ remapped I don't know.

Audi - four rings on the bonnet, four grand on the price :giggle:

The mother-in-law used to work for Caffyns and the Audi dealership is known under various monikers; The Crystal Palace, The Dream Factory, Buckingham Palace....etc.

Somebody has to pay for all those coffee machines, Herman Miller chairs and glass walls :giggle:

Enjoy the S4 - nice motor!

It would be nice not to lose a warranty just to make it as quick as it should come from the factory though :(

You're not wrong but it's either that or a 335i realistically. The options is where Audi get you as its just insane.

That is fast at less than 13 seconds to 100

My rs 250 is about 14

13 is not far from s3 territory!!!!

remapped vrs tsi is quicker than an s3 from a rolling start

Have you tested this? Seems like they would be the same on paper.

Yep. Think about it, similar power but the S3 weighs over 100kg more and will suffer from more transmission loss due to 4wd.

I guessed they would weigh the same. I know I can't do an S4 and figured the S3 would be the same as the S4.

I had a play with an S4 and there was nothing in it, the S4 had a little bit more at the top end but that was about it. Remember they are circa 198 bhp per ton and as per S3 they suffer from more transmission loss. From a standing start the S4 and S3 would walk away, no question, and the bottom line is they are nicer cars but from rolling starts [40/50mph] there really isn't much in it. A Revo stage performance 2 on a tsi vrs is about 186 to 190bhp per ton I think so it stands to reason it would be a close run thing. Don't get me wrong, given the choice I would take an S4 as it's that quick as standard and it has the 4wd that I want. Amongst others, it's on my wish list for my next car but I don't think I would be so keen to remap one and wouldn't bother. I'm actually happy with the performance of mine and something similar with 4wd would be perfect.

I have to agree I would have an estate S4 tomorrow, however cost and more importantly they don,t have a crocodile on the options list!!!!!

The , boys, would break into your house within 6 months and take it!!!!!

Thank you for your comments about re map, I think I will give mine ago on a blue fin

You can debadge an S4 and it looks like any other A4, that's the good thing about them. very stealthy.

I wouldn't bother with blue fin; Revo all the way. Not come across many people who have used superchips on the tsi vrs.

And how much does that cost?

I don,t think you can take a s4 badge off and get away with it, 4 tail pipes much wider, better seats, these little, treasures !!! Know there stuff!!

That puts my mind at rest. Cheers! I already had one car broken into. Think having that happen with the S4 might make me cry.

About £500 to £600. Reassuringly expensive.

I'm just chewing over all of this and the thing that really strikes me is the new OCty losing 200kgs, that's like losing two big burly mates in the back seat! It will make a huge difference.

On a slightly different note this will put all but the very lightest of caravans off limits for those who use the octavia as a tow car due to the towed weight becoming heavier than the car itself. I might need to tell the kids our caravan holiday days are numbered...lol

I am sorry to hear that, I have had far too many experiences with poor people's own high quality, expensive vehicles being driven????? By, scum!!!

Thanks I will look into a revo option

my stock VRS was as quick as an ST in my experience, I also wiped the floor with a VXR Astra Nurburgring edition, although I was stage 1 at the time so I guess thats cheating!

Sounds like garbage to me, they are making it bigger, not likely they will also lose 200kg.

Not sure the GTi and VRS are supposed to compare with the VXR, etc. VW wouldn't want the GTi or VRS to compete with the "R"?

That's just what I was going to say, presumably the Leon Cupra or whatever its equivalent is will have the much higher power output - VW are generally deliberate as to where they place cars in the range.

John

The torque is well up to around 250 lb/ft, and the GTI has lost around 60kgs, lending to it staying competitive.
