Intercooler

Featured Replies

Hi, I was removing my toe hook from the front right light and noticed a fair amount of oil and dirt. I looked inside and noticed my intercooler was clogged up with the same stuff. I have cleaned most of the dirt from the outside but the intercooler still seems clogged up with the oil/dirt. What could have caused this and is there a way to safely remove the intercooler to get a better look at it and maybe get a jet washer to it?

Thanks in advance.

My car is a skoda fabia 1.9 TDI if that helps!

BUMP

Remove the wheelarch liner and/or loosen undertray and blast it from behind. Do it with a normal hose. Avoid the pressure washer idea. You're likely to damage the i/c.

Ok thanks, ill give it a go tomorow!

Its the inside of the intercooler and pipework thats going to be caked in oil!

Really needs the whole thing taken off and cleaned in its entirety with carb cleaner and water

Dishwasher?

I had the same issue with mine. The air ducting had rubbed on the intercooler casuing it to wear through meaning all the vapoury air was being forced out and mixing with the shi* from the road casusing it to build up and clog the canes for the cooler.

Whipped it off and cleaned with brake cleaner following the guide over on fabia-vrs.com as didnt realise it was split before id filled it with water!

Thanks for the comments.

Thats what the outisde of mine looks like softscoop, did you clean it the same way house_vrs did?

Thanks.

Yeah basically.

I took it off, rinsed off the majority of crap in a washing up bowl, then gave it a going over with some carb cleaner and an old toothbrush.
