HELP!

Featured Replies

Guys/gals i need help before i decide to break/scrap the vrs.

basiclly i have a noise when i intially pull away.

it's a metalic clunk sound that feels like it comes through the bulk head/floor.

it only does it the once till i stop and pull away again.

it's beem to 2 different garages in the last few days.

the first one said it was the exh centre bracket, which was replaced - still there

2nd garage told me it was the track rod on the nearside so they replaced the pair and ends, still there. they then decided it was the drive shaft inner joint on the nearside. supplied them a spare one i had, noise still there.

it feels to me like something is moving back wards when i pull off.

in the last year it has had:

new lower arms with poly flex bushes front and back

new lower ball joints

steering rack bush poly flexed

engine dog bone bushes poly flexed

drop links x2

wheel bearings x4

new pads and discs all round

new suspension springs all round

the car doesn't drive any different now to how it did before this problem. drives straight, corners fine etc.......

i need to sort this asap or she's being broken / scrapped.

not got time for chasing problems as i do over 18k a year just getting to and from work and need a reliable car.

she's on 170k and i begrudge spending lots of money on her and the last 2 garages have cost me over £200 for work that don't need doing.

and to make matters even worse is the rear bumpers been hit whilst it was with them, so thats the next battle i'm going to have with them.

Radiator mounts?

Check and see if rad is nice and secure?

Maybe engine mounts?

Engine mount? Must be a bit tired at 170k?

no you can't break her (although you've tried a few times) Maybe the welds when you performed the last cut and shut on it have come loose????

I had a Rover that used to clunk like this, turned out one of the chassis leg bolts were slightly loose, she'd been in a frontal so that would explain it on mine.

I'd get it up on the ramp and make sure everything is nice and tight.

she's been on more ramps and had more lever bars stuck in places than i'd care to imagine recently lol

the mounts have been checked and there solid, also had the roll bar bushes done in last 6 months.

she's getting closer to be dismantled by the minute!!!!

Poor thing fancy wanting to scrap it just dot a clunk! Jack up the passenger side front and rotate the wheel back and forth, could be the box which can last for years without being a problem.

Well picked the car up from the garage last night and things have got worse!!

the misses picked the keys up and paid the bill at lunch time.

they'd parked the car up and given her the keys.

drivers mat ripped out the mounts

i won't name and shame yet as i am awaiting the regional manager to call me to discuss these issues.

as far as the knocking noise is concerned it's now even worse, it knocks as soon as you touch the trottle.

WTF! Name and shame. They don't deserve a second chance.

Garages do an important job, and are responsible for your life at the end of the day.

It's not too much to expect them to do their job properly and look after your car. If most of us were as half-arsed as bad garages, then we'd lose our jobs.

Engine mount, just changed my gearbox side, its cured no end of rattles and clunks, give the gearbox a yank to see how much movement there is

Rear Subframe bushes? I know mine are shot as we have replaced everything else, just waiting to get some more bits and pieces before fitting the LCR subframe and arms :D If it is a loud solid clunk then it is going to be Subframe bush or as Dave says the engine mounts. all the other things like arb and trackrods etc tend to be rattles and knocks

Dave, glad you got yours sorted, you were on about that one when we met up...  furry, hope you get these issues resolved

Well it appears that it is the near side front lower arm rear bush. Seeing as these are poly bushed and less than a year old I am surprised :-(

Powerflex ? ?

I had problems with those polys

I use the TT solid rubber ones these days, to scared to try polys again lol

Just checked and they were super pro.

Gunna grab some during the week and sort.

hmm... now im worried. I reckoned on doin ARB bushes and probably others in the next few months.

Bought it 125K on it, an no idea when they were done last.

I'd been planning on going Power flex Polys on everything!

given that everyone here and over SeatCupra seems to love them..

not so sure now!!

  • 3 weeks later...
