Fan Running after stopping

Featured Replies

Octavia estate 4x4 2.0 diesel on 61 plate and 2000 miles. On occasions having driven 10 to 20 miles at no speeds above 60 mph the fan continues to run for sometimes 5 mins before it shuts down, there is also a smell of clutch or brake overheating. All temp indicators are normal. I do not ride the clutch or drive with my foot on it. Any advice would be appreciated. It does not always happen even when I have driven on a dual carriageway for an hour. Has anyone else had the same problem?

John

DPF doing its thing. The fans stop on to stop the manifold getting too hot if you are parked on grass for example.

Burning smell is also the DPF burn off.

You need to drive it harder not softer to stop this happening!

Search in this forum "DPF regen" you will get a lot more background information on the workings of it and should assure you as jrw says its normal and longer higher engine speed drives will keep it clear more naturally by not doing this the car is designed now to clear itself by I believe injecting diesel in to burn it off. Should be a bit in manual too about it.

I have had same thing on my 11 plate at around same mileage first time.

Didn't think the cr gave dpf problems although people havnt huge miles done yet on them so time will tell.

It doesn't, as both me and FUBAR have stated, its normal. It is intelligent enough to do a 'passive' regen in that you wont notice unless you switch off mid cycle. Mine has done it a couple of times when i have had a week of short journies or similar.

There is someone on here with a CR with 90odd thousand on the clock....there is a cambelt thread somewhere for it.

Thanks for the information. I notice that Honest John in the Telegraph is not a great fan DPF or any vehicle with a DMF, as both are prone to causing problems.

Thanks again

hmmm, i'm having this problem (on my 12 plate) - only done 1200 miles so far but its' caught me twice (on journeys of around an hour each time)

Never had it on my 58 plate which had the same 2.0 CR engine tho (170bhp) - which had DPF on it and I'd done 50,000+ miles in

Is this a new 'feature'?

The weird thing is, when it last happened on the Friday, I was in a rush to get somewhere, and was booting it for most of the way... odd!

hmmm, i'm having this problem

It's not a problem it's normal, stated several times above.

Mine did this even when the DPF was removed

It was the High Pressure sensor on the Air Con, Sensor replaced fans stopped as they should.

It happend to me and did wonder what was going on, however only once in 3,800 miles. At that time (February) the same question was asked in the Yeti section, got my answer there! Get the burning (sooty smell) regular so it is nice to know the DPF is working. Otherwise no problems.

well it's easily perceived as a problem :p

Don't you at least think it's weird my last vrs didn't do it? I'm sure there's an explanation why it's happened twice in 1 month on this car, and zero times in 42 months on my last one but the only difference (I'm aware of) is that this one is facelift. Is this a new feature?

If it's any weirder, both times when I've gone back to check the oil temp, as soon as I put my key in and turn, the fans cut out... 1st time around I was quite quick at doing this. Second time around I waited a good 5 minutes or so

Mine did this this morning on arrival to work, again normal. Stinks though! :giggle:

It's been a good few months since it last did it.
