Potential Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire meet

Featured Replies

Further to some discussion elsewhere I thought I'd start a propper thread on a potential Bucks/Oxon meet.

Somewhere around Bicester/Aylesbury would be good as it gives people in MK, Oxford and surround areas to attend.

Ideas so far are:

RR day at AMD in Bicester

RR day at G-Force in Aylesbury (need to check they're interested in non Jap/Porsche

An early morning drive (Scoobynet Wycombe style) perhaps from Thame to Bicester then back through Waddesdon before going up over the hill to Long Credon etc. Potential morning coffee stop at AMD/Little Chef/Bicester Village/a Bicester members house ;)

Airfield day at RAF Upper Heyford - this one I'll look into as I work there (potential public liability insurance nightmare) I tried for Scoobynet in the past but it looked tricky, couldnt really be bothered as I diddnt have a Scoob so I'll try harder this time.

Not another RR day, surely? ;)

Personally I'd prefer the 'nice pub and a meal in the evening' type meet, but am ok with any other organised event as long as it is within 'virtual' budget ;)

Goochie

Airfield sounds interesting as a day. Public Liability can be an issue but it's not an impass.

If you want anything relating to that or develop ideas can you PM delcac to progress and copy me on it :D

RR days are ok, but feel free to do others. Spring and summer is here (despite the white stuff) so drive outs evening pubs etc are all geat starters :D

:D Mini meet tomorrow @ my works with Q (Bucks) and me (oxon)

We can all look at Q`s nail

:P Phil

Bumping to the top - still open for ideas guys.

I'd be up for any kind of local meet, I'm only in Aylesbury so not far to go if it's in Bicester or thereabouts!

Goochie, where do you work at Upper Heyford? I'm up there every now and then for work (you might have seen me running around in black with a shield getting set on fire from time to time - perk of the job or something!!)

Only just spotted this - would definitely be up for a meet.

Cafe stop idea sounds good!

Bump..........

 Still up for ideas:confused: We now seem to be looking around the Bicester, Aylesbury,Milton Keynes and Wycombe areas (wheres DaveU)

Lets get location sorted and then we can confirm dates... It will be Xmas @ this rate:rofl:

Right then.

As some of you may have seen, there is a thread on here about becoming an Advanced Motorist through the AIM. Our local centre/group is in Kidlington, just outside Oxford. I will be ordering my "Skill For Life" pack later this week with the intention of attending their next meeting on June 1st at 8pm.

It costs

interesting one goochie, may be up for this. what does it gain you other than some knowledge/experience?

how about the go-karting at oxford dog track?? supposed to be quite good. but where ever it is i'll be there depending on time :D

It *can* gain you a discount on your insurance. Visit www.iam.org.uk for further information.

The Advanced Test

The Advanced Driving Test lasts for about 90 minutes and will usually cover between 30 and 40 miles along all types of road (town driving, motorways (if available) or dual carriageways, and even country lanes).

Your Examiner will hold a Police Advanced Driving certificate (either serving or ex Police Class 1) and will have extensive experience from working within the Traffic sections of the Police Force.

The Test gives a thorough workout of driving ability, allowing the candidate to alter their drive according to the conditions and environment of the road. The types of road vary from quiet country roads, motorways to busy town centres. In each case there are hazards and situations that need to be avoided and taken care of using the methods and techniques that advanced driving gives. There may be situations where the candidate can show flair and panache (or what we term as Sparkle) on an open country road where optimum progress can be gained at maximum safety, using optimum road positioning and excellent observation. All this combines to give a brisk smooth drive, at the legal limit on the open road. In other situations, the candidate will need to show restraint and composure to deal with tricky hazards that may become apparent throughout the drive. Such as in a town centre situation, where observation is used to pick out hazards in situations that are constantly changing. The main objective is that the candidate has to perform well in all situations rather than excel in one.

Many people often comment on the Test after taking it and more often than not, the comments revolve around how much they enjoyed the drive. On Test the candidate gets to "show off" the new skills that they have been tuning for the weeks during their course. The Advanced Driving Test IS NOT EASY but is within the reach of most motorists with the right guidance.

Anything cheaper? ;)

Still prefer the 'get together in a pub on an evening' kind of meet...
