what's it worth? R-reg GLiD est with 120k

Featured Replies

As the title says, I've got an R-reg, Felicia Est GLiD, bright green, a bit rusty, a bit dented, not tidy, does 80 miles a day with me. Just turned 120,000 miles.

Power steering, electric mirrors.

Sunroof did leak - I fixed it as per the thread, interior needs a good clean, MOT November, TAX til end May. Timing belt done at 110,000. I'll be doing a service tonight.

Does 52-56mpg regularly.

Thinking of selling... What's it worth?

MG

Hi, I sold my V reg felly estate, albeit 1.3mpi, a while back for around £500. Around 135k on the clock, good runner, ave/fair condition throughout.

I think that would be around your ceiling limit from what you describe.

....about £12!!!!

....about £12!!!!

That's what they'll want to pay!! No great value in old fellys.

FFS!

you'd probably get about £100 for scrap if you weighed it in. so I'll start the ball rolling with a £100 offer.. That's what this thread is about after all? :wonder:

I've bought an Audi which was supposed to be a donor vehicle but looks like it will turn into my daily.

I've been thinking about £250 so was surprised at the mention of £500...

You guys know more about the market for these cars so I appreciate the input. Thanks.

MG

The market says, pay £12 and join Freedom. Then you can word a FOR SALE thread in any way you want and not have to disguise it as a "what's it worth thread".

  • Author

I figured that as you guys all have Skodas, you wouldn't be interested so I wasn't going to advertise it on here.

Sorry if it's come across any other way...

MG

The truth is that it is worth what people will pay for it in the area you live, some parts of the UK they seem to sell for more than other parts.

Realistically, it is worth perhaps £150-250, depending on the amount of MOT and Tax, as well as any service history etc. The last one I bought in a similar condition to what you describe, I got for £140 with 8 months tax and MOT from a private (Briskoda), seller, although it was a 1.3, not a 1.9D.

I also bought a mint "S" plate 50K 1.3 GLi with FSH for £350 from a dealer, so I look at these galactic mileage cars being advertised for £600-£1000 by dealers and laugh my socks off.

The market says, pay £12 and join Freedom. Then you can word a FOR SALE thread in any way you want and not have to disguise it as a "what's it worth thread".

Or, having got a rough idea from your friendly fellow Skoda owners (which, after all is the entire point of Briskoda), stick it on eBay, it's cheaper than £12.

Also, the OP said "thinking of selling", not the same as "For Sale". Joining Freedom only to be told "you're better scrapping it" would be a waste of £12. I daresay the OP would join Freedom if he decides it is worth trying to sell on Briskoda. Given that he's now got an Audi as a daily runner now, a year's worth of Briskoda Freedom just to sell one car and then leave, would make it a very expensive advert and advice.

I wasn't aware that the Briskoda terms (updated March 2011) meant that advice and opinions can now be charged for...........

Wow... looks like I lit the fuse!

I'm not ready to sell the Felicia yet hence my asking before putting it up for sale. I need to do a gearbox rebuild on the Audi before it's ready to be used.

Thanks for all the advice and sorry for mentioning that I will be putting my car up for sale.

It won't happen again.

@Ghia, dont take it personally, there have been a few people over my time here that have tried to get around the "FREEDOM" fee buy posting something similar to this thread; the difference is they jumped at the first "I'll buy it for XX" offer and showed their true colours.

I dont even OWN a Skoda right now, but they still let me come and play here.

Dude, to those of us who have english as a first language, it came across as you intended. Don't worry, the re-action you got from our "friendly" (as in friendly-fire) moderator was of it's usual sarcastic level expected from some on here. I mean "....about £12!!!!" does come across as "Your car's only worth £12" not "Well, if you really want to sell your car on here, you should pay £12 to join Freedom and advertise it in the 'For Sale' section to find out how much it's worth." but that's like way too much effort to type. ;) ;)

funny that, recently I've started only replying to technical or help requests from members that have either been here for a while or are freedom members.. I got a bit hacked off with somebody a few months ago who joined up, asked a question, then got a carefully considered reply from myself and all the other usual suspects, he then effed off, then came back 2 months later and asked the same question again, so I posted a link to his previous time he asked and he got a rat up his arse about it because it wasn't detailed enough or wasn't telling him exactly how to do it with full pictures... So in that respect I'd say that anybody with a half decent reputation gets my full attention, but all the 'hit and run' characters don't get owt... Besides somebody else will come along and reply soon enough anyway (usually with stuff cut and pasted from stuff written previously by myself and a few others)

This isn't aimed at the op or anybody else in this thread by the way, something happened earlier that really boiled my **** and I'm venting some steam.. Think I might go out in a bit to check out some local totty because the warm weather brings all the decent muff out.

That's fair enough. This is a free forum to join up to and it's everyone's personal choice as to whether they want to help out others or not.

I have asked questions on here regarding some of the technical problems or things that I'm interested in on my Skoda but at the same time, I've also tried to help out others with posts like the sunroof leak thread, explaining what I did to fix the leaks so that others my be able to gain from my experience of my car.

I never did work out why the courtesy light doesn't work from the drivers door... :giggle:

MG

Sounds very similar to my S reg GLiD estate, just coming up to 140,000 miles. I've had the car for eleven years now and accept that it's worth little more than scrap value. On that basis I've just spent more than 3 times the value of the car to keep it on the road for a while longer, in theory it makes no sense but it's cheaper than a new car! At least I know what's good and what's bad with this one.

Regards,

Andy.

TBH I think it's a bit rich if the site's owners do think it's off; they didn't pay me for the sponsorship on my rally car for Wales Rally GB 2010, and are no longer replying to my emails!

Firstly let me say that English is not my first language but I seem to get by but thanks for your bigoted comment. If your Srilankan is anywhere near as good as my English you have my deepest respect.

We, I say we in the royal sense, have to deal with this type of thread all day every day and much much more. You really need to take stock and fully understand what Freedom membership actually means to this site and most of the members that join it. This site survives because of Freedom, sponsors, time and effort the site owner and moderating team give up for no reward, all so you can poke fun at them. So excuse me for not being able to distinguish between the p!ss takers and the true supporters of this site on every occasion nor am I sitting here all night righting love letters to everyone (usually non-Freedom members) starting this type of thread. If people even bother to look there are lots of links to sites that will give you a valuation for your car in the for sale section.

The only difference between the op's opening post and an out and out for sale thread is, "What's it worth". Every other word........Oh what's the point. This will obviously turn into yet another Nazi Mod bashing thread anyway so bring it on. ;) ;) .....this seems to make all the difference.

PS this is the most I’ve written in years.......I need a lie down now.

Firstly: I apologise, I didn't realise you weren't english. Must be really hard grappling with the subtle nuances that english presents, especially when being required to judge upon them.

However, *I* don't *need* to take stock of what Freedom membership means to Briskoda and to it's members. (Although I'm not sure why you needed to mention sponsorship.)

It's not another Nazi Mod-bashing thread. My experience of the moderators has been polarised. Some see themselves that those who will enforce rules and see it as very much black and white, no warning, no tolerance, and others who see themselves as more "guides" to help the ordinary members and offer friendly advice if the conversation could be heading into rule-breaking terratory. Here in jolly old blighty have a saying "if you want to know the time, ask a policeman." If the policeman made sarcastic comments ("ooo why don't you get a watch"), they would be very distant from one of the aims....to help and assist the public.

Maybe I've read the whole "moderator" thing wrong, and the duty is far from providing helpful assistance, especially to the newbies.

The OP went on to clarify that he had no intention of trying to sell a Skoda (a rather beaten up Skoda by his own description) to a bunch of people who already have Skodas. (Trying to sell slushy snow to Eskimos?)

To be fair, it is hard to tell when someone with "moderator" in their ID is making a posting or an administration comment. It did take you 3 goes before you made an admin comment, the first two were very much seen as sarcastic "....about £12!!!!" and "FFS!" cannot be read as administrative, can they? You might know what you mean by "....about £12!!!!", at least two of us thought you were actually joining in the conversation.

Looking at the other sites? Really? Or would you ask a bunch of people about their actual experiences? Those people would be Briskoda members, ordinary and Freedom.

(And quite a lot of links on a Google search bring you here, to Brisokda, that must count for something for Briskoda's standing to and among Skoda-owners? You're suggesting that people don't use Brisokda? Seriously?)

Maybe it is all about making money now and not about sharing experiences, knowledge and opinions.........

Didn't you used to be a Freedom member?

Yes I did. Buggered if I'm going to repeat it, given the above.

100% spot on from my perspective. It was my understanding that the moderator had genuinely joined the dialogue and if particular comments need to be applied they should be done so clearly & first time round to avoid confusion and the need to clarify however many posts later. I've got nothing like the Skoda related knowledge of some of these guys but do my best to help/guide whoever I can + am hugely appreciative of the guys/girls who strive to do the same for me. Hopefully it's that type of ethos driving a bloody good site & long may it continue!

I'm not going to get into a ping pong posting debate but you seem to have misunderstood nearly everything I just posted.

For the record this is not a money making site nor is the site owner driving his Range Rover around on his country estate from the proceeds. The money goes towards keeping this site going, bottom line. It used to survive on donations when first set up but as the site grow beyond all expectations this changed into the way it's funded today. Without it it would die, hence the need to mention it. When I say P*ss takers, I mean people whose sole intension is to avoid paying the £12 at all costs. You would not believe the lengths they would go to disguise their intensions. They are basically sticking 2 fingers up at the site and Freedom for their own gain. The whole reason that Skoda owners are able to join this site for free, share their experiences, knowledge and opinions is because of freedom members so excuse me for reacting when someone decides to belittle them. I am not suggesting for one minute that every for sale post from non-freedom members are made in this manor but the few have spoilt it for the many. Hard to distinguish between them really, that's my point!

You haven't even bothered to look at the links I mentioned before replying, they are in the for sale section. They are links to sites that will give you a valuation for your car, that's my other point! What on earth are you taking about???

Well, courtesy to you, you missed several of the points made in my post. Shan't high-light them for you.

However I did actualy read your standard "what a hard life it is being a mod" posting. (I have been a moderator in several forums before)

Taking a couple of your points:

The sites you list:

https://www.mycarcheck.com/valuation/ - Valuation service costs £1.50

Glass's Used Car Prices, Vehicle Valuations, Motorbike Prices - Apparently "free" but requires registration. Not so free then really when you wade through spam and "things you might be interested in"

Valuations - Iink doesn't work. On locating the correct link, doesn't list anything back beyond V-Reg

Used Prices - Parker's - Valuation service costs £3.49.

WiseBuyer's Guides - used car prices, valuation, review, specs, guides, used car market report - Does actually work, doesn't take condition into consideration

Used Car Values - Valuation service costs £3.50

Skoda - Used Cars - Skoda don't sell used Felicias anymore, haven't done for years.

Buy New Cars, Used Cars, Cheap Cars, Second Hand Cars, Classic Cars and Nearly New Cars at Auto Trader -Does work, not really a valuation, tells you what everyone else wants.

....so not anywhere near as useful as asking a bunch of owners about their experiences. Although, credit where it's due, they are cheaper than paying £12 for Freedom membership, but still as unlikely to be anything near as useful as asking owners.

None of the sites will take, as part of a description, "a bit rusty, a bit dented, not tidy" so the valuation would probably be a waste of money. They are great if your car is relatively new (i.e this century) and in a "reasonable" condition.

If it's hard to distinguish these sort of postings:

a) you could always ask (novel idea for a moderator I know, but it's always worth a shot ;) )

b ) only one person had trouble working out what the OP was asking.

What was I talking about? Read it and you'll understand what I'm talking about. (someone else has.)

Back on to one of the points I raised (and Rob agreed with).......when you make an "administrative" comment, you could always do it in red. Wouid kinda prevent it from being taken as part of the conversation. (Yeah, radical I know, I mean, where would the forum be without confusion over sarcastic comments?)
