R-Tech Remap

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Ok, So after much head scratching trying to work out what was causing my boost fluctuations and flat spot, I decided to bite the bullet and take it to R-Tech. I did as much as I could with the car; removed SAI, bypassed N249 etc, which made a difference, but it still wasn't right. I thought about buying and changing a few electronic devices (N75 etc), but decided not to waste money and to see what R-Tech said first.

So over to R-Tech yesterday. Nick certainly knows his stuff, and there were a couple of guys there with some seriously quick cars! He checked for boost leaks, and found none, so that's good, but he suspected a faulty N75 or MAF was causing the flat spot. After testing everything, and doing a power run, it appeared the electronics were fine, and the problem was actually the standard map... It was terrible! It had a huge boost spike at 3k RPM, which caused the N75 to bleed off boost, and then it came on and off gradually. Nick couldn't believe what it looked like and said whoever wrote this obviously didn't know what they were doing!

The first power run made 181 BHP & 183 LB/FT Torque, but in an all over the place power delivery. One hour later and working his magic, he got a figure of 210 BHP & 239LB/FT Torque, and the difference is astonishing! Hit full boost and it pulls and pulls and pulls!

Just like to say a big thank you to all the members in my previous thread helping me track down certain problems, and I would recommened Nick at R-Tech any day of the week!

Sam

LOL what a bargin hahaha :giggle:

ideal would be the APR stage 2 bottom and REVO stage 2 hold

There just seems to be something missing from the REVO  unless its me and im hard to please, but im sure the APR was more aggresive down low

ive now emailed rtech :sun:

May be better to call them tomorrow mate, as he's usually that busy replying to an email takes about a week! Nick is usually mapping, so ask for Rob, I think he's his brother and he knows his stuff too.

with that r tech remap is that on the stock intercooler ?? i would love to get mine remapped but worried that on my stock intercooler wont be worth it due to heat soak

All depends what your goal is. If you are driving normally and only using full boost in bursts you wont really see much degradation of power. Of course if you were going around a track all day Id suggest getting something better.

My remap has been on for 5 years with no ill effects.

Ah Kk I always assumed that with the remap in just day to day driving with the odd full throttle and off would cause problems well when I have the funds remap will be after the car has had a service

No, would be fine. A full service sounds good, & new coils from the recall if not done already.

Give it a good check over too with VAG COM and check all breather hoses.

coils have been done made the car run instantly smoother and i will get the vag com cable just havent had time yet and have checked breather hoses and only had to replace the y piece hose and car seems all good atm

Mine has a standard side mount, and Nick even said it looks smaller than all the rest he's seen, which was strange. Mine is a very late MK1 so he thinks they may have fitted a slightly different one from the factory. Having said that, I've not noticed any ill effects, even though it was warm yesterday and I've been 'enjoying' the cars new power! :giggle:

thats what i mainly wanted to find out i wanted a stage 2 map ideally but running up the costs i cant afford a fmic and the other things that were mentioned in the list of things needed doing for a stage 2 map well besides the intake and exhaust as they r done about from sports cat and dv valve which is next to do but stage 1 map is not a problem for me at all

Yep ;-)

Yes mate I did, looks a bit of a beast :)

What's the spec?

Nick did tell me that Stage 2 with front mount will make a massive difference. I would seriously considering getting one in your case, as you've already done exhaust etc (assuming it's full turbo back). I may be tempted one day, but mine is standard otherwise, so full exhaust and FMIC is going to cost a fair bit, and at the moment is the least of my priorities.

no exhaust is cat back which i would like a sports cat will have to wait and see atm got alot of things atm which need sorting other then the car and its hard to mix all in which is y i wouldnt mind even a stage 1 map just to get that pull the car needs but then i am worried that the components like the clutch and other little things wont last as long so at the same time i am happy with the way the car is till i have more money coming in for myself

Stage 1 should be fine on the clutch to be fair. Stage 2 would put alot more pressure on it as the torque figures shoot up massively. My clutch is standard at present, I'm just going to wait until mine needs doing and then do a solid flywheel conversion. Stage 1 gives ample power/torque, so is definately worth a go! :)

Did you keep any of the bits that were on it? :)

Did you keep any of the bits that were on it? :)

yes most of the car looks the same as such a few changes but it has been taken back to a shell and very part has been removed replaced or stripped and rebuilt using new oem or uprated parts ;-) it will have more power more reliabilty more presence and be more fun lol

you will see the difference visually and wen i let you take it for a spin ;-)

you will see the difference visually

You already can... It wasn't difficult to spot! :)
