Boys and girls, would it be possible to put up any dyno graphs from a remapped vRS, so show exactly the type of map, whether it comes on progressively or aggressively, any spikes/flat spots etc.

Sorry to tag on to this Babs!

What i would like to know is what Remap people have and why they like it. Not Just its Awesome! I would like to know why you like it. Is it the spike at the start, the spike at the end, the way it pulls.....

My Motech Performance X-Map hits highest boost around 2.5k then drops down a bit. So yeah spike at the start then drops slowly toward the red line. Pulls like a train though, doesn't feel like it drops off at all.

Can't fault it really. But it depends how you like the power to come on i'd imagine, some people will probably want it to be more progressive, some more agressive! See if you can borrow someone to take you out in theirs Dave and whether you like it.

Here are two graphs of the same map, the difference is the second graph is on a new turbo. The first turbo died, but not because of the map from RS Tuning

As you can see, the first map was a bit mental in terms of boost. It felt amazing when the turbo spooled up and impressed everyone with it's kick in the back. However, this was all over pretty quickly and then it was quite linear - but gutless - up to about 5500rpm.

The second graph was merely a rolling road session with no tweaks after the first turbo was replaced. This feels much better all round. Much smoother, despite the slight dip on the way up, and it's easier to get the power down too. Even though the headline figure is less, it's a nicer map to live with and far less embarrasing when trying to make progress. Also the first version nearly killed me a few times as the over zealous traction control would kick in and leave me stranded in front of traffic bearing down on me. I took to driving with the traction control turned off every time I got in the car.

Looking at these and extrapolating from the whp to flywheel hp.

185whp = 229 flywheel ~23% loss

or

198whp = 229 flywheel ~16% loss

or

179whp - 233 flywheel ~30% loss

So everyone uses totally different figures to calculate flywheel HP

So according to these figures my stage 2 map running 207 whp is between 240 and 269bhp. Hmm :)

It'll be interesting to see what it tests at next Tuesday - it's likely to be about 15 degrees cooler than last time. Same dyno in new premises so freshly calibrated.

Plus I've added the FMIC, Intake manifold and exhaust since last time.

I know my whp was 191 but fly is 210 thats only a 9% loss :o

They'll apply a correction factor to get around the air temp being different Rob.

Shark Performance Stage 1

Not bad for a standard 10yr old car with 136k miles on the clock!!

Mikko did explain to me that it should be making up to 210bhp, but my turbo wasn't holding boost at high revs. The boost was being requested, but just couldn't hold it. My N75 (which is still the original) was performing perfectly apparently. He suspected that my wastegate actuator had seen better days! It's not something that I'm bothered about anyway, as I've breached the 200bhp barrier, and I rarely rev it up that high anyway.

It's all about the massive 354Nm (261lbft) of torque at 3200rpm! Plus the consistent 45bhp power increase from 3250 to 4750rpm.

The map is super smooth and does not surge. I genuinely can't fault the map or the guys at Shark Performance. Big thanks to Mikko, Ben and Rob. :thumbup:

They haven't emailed me the graphs yet but today's dyno came out at 168kw - 225bhp - at the wheels. Good result :)

Sorry no graph but I have an Elite Remaps map on my VRS Mk1, done through a local dealer who was a friend of a friend :-

I find the map gives a huge grin factor, but is very peaky, and also does surge a little. Worst of all, I have a CEL light on after the remap, and if all other attempts to correct that fail, I will be having the map returned to standard, and will be asking for a refund. The light came on 20 miles (about 4 hours) after the map was done, so it's not conclusive that it is caused by the remap.

But all in all, at this point in time, all things considered, I would not recommend this map to fellow Octavia VRS 1.9T owners. :( ....... to be honest, it feels like it's pushing the car a bit too hard, especially on boost. Acceleration in 2nd and 3rd when the boost comes in is obscene, which is nice! .....but this is my daily family car (and only car) so I'm worried about killing my turbo.

Hopefully my worries will prove to be unfounded and I'll be glad to eat my hat. (even though I don't own a hat!)

It seems to be hitting a limit at 1.5 bar boost which is why there's a dip in the curve.

This is why you should have a reputable VAG tuner do you map, like the ones on here, APR, Revo, Shark, RTech, etc, etc. There's lots of "any marque" remappers out there, and they just don't have the experience and skills to do it properly. Either up the boost too much, or in the case of TDI maps, up the fueling too much.

Rob so yours is around 228 hp?? Wich will be fwhp not whp as that would put you fwhp in the 280 hp figure wich is never ever going to happen buddy. That figure is mo?e realistic to your cars setup. So about 185 whp

Have to say the graph still looks crap imo cant you get ben to update it to oné of his mapa now as the newer maps are a massive improvement ;-) and should hold better power across the board with les Boost ;-)

Also you need to find Whats causing the dip as its happening all the time and is not good imo Might be due to the high Boost and the fuel dumping for protection!!!

Do you have a boost gauge or VAG-Com or the Torque app for your phone to check what boost it is actually making? peaking at 18-19psi is ok for a stage 1 map and to be honest it will feel very fast if you've only driven a standard VRS before. If it's making 23psi or more then thats running the K03S the turbo at its limits and I'd consider getting a different map... the best maps use fuelling and timing rather than cranking up the boost to get a good peak power figure and a flat torque curve.

I have emailed them about the boost cutting, see what they reckon.

Long term it's tempting to get a hybrid or bigger turbo and get a local custom map. Trouble is the places nearby are all Jap specialists and don't have the equipment to tune VAG ECUs.

Pretty sure its due to high Boost high temp fuel dumping

Bena new maps are good and you can get it via your sts save you a fortune.

Hybrid sounds good or i will sell you my engine and turbo setup ;-) lol

My stage 1 custom from rtech posted above peaks at 20 psi and holds 15/16 psi
