Any issues with the old 140 PD engines?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm considering a diesel Superb and am wondering which would be the best choice of engine.

Are there any known issues with the 140PD TDI engines?

I note the switch to the 140CR TDI happened some when around 2009. Does anyone know when exactly?

I'm thinking if there's a problem with the 140PD, I'd rather go for the old trusty 1.9PD TDI if I can't strech to a newer 140CR.

I had the 140 CR in my Superb 1, L&K (year 2007) with no problem. Others say that there is an oil pump problem. Research the car and it's service history. I sold it to my eldest son, very economical (55 plus mpg). I am waiting for my L&K at the end of this month

All i'd say is stick with the 140, the 170 I had in my VRS was great until the injectors started burning up, also had 2 oil coolers and 2 EGR valves all between 100,000 to over 140,000 miles.

There are no issues with the P140 in the Superb MK2, I ran mine remapped for 2 years and 44K miles before selling it due to work reasons.

The oil pump drive issue relates to the PD140 used in the MK1 Superb, the MK2 uses a completely different transverse mounted engine to that used in the mk1 superb.

I had the 140 CR in my Superb 1,

PD?

Stuart

Did not spot that, there was never a CR140 engine used in the MK1 superb, only the old PD140 with the troublesome oil pump drive. Thank god that engine was not carried over to the MK2.

CR to PD accepted.
