Fitting a Strut Brace

Featured Replies

I got a Strut Brace for my rs now I need some advice in fitting it.

I got all the right nuts & bolts ect... but I hardly just drill 3 holes into my chassis and go driving can anyone give some advice in what I should and shouldn

I replied to the PM you sent me but I think you are talking about an Octy brace and I've only fitted the Fabia one.

Offer the new brace upto the suspension turrets so that it's reasonably centred. Usually a good idea to get a mate to give you a hand. Mark the position of one of the holes using a centre punch or similar. Remove the brace and drill a dirty great big hole in your suspension turret. Offer the brace up agian and bolt into position. Mark the other hole locations and drill the remaining holes. Simple as that :)

Wasn't there a thread on this topic with a 'how to' guide and photos and that?

Doesn't the S3 strut brace fit with no drilling?

if only there were some sort of facility within the forums, whereby you enter key words or phrases, then click a button, and all the related threads and topics apear on your screen........hmmmm.

 No S3 brace is defo; bolt on jobby.... i used 10mm stainless steel allen bolts with nylocs to secure mine. Try and keep the nuts under the wheel arches, looks tidier:cool:

It helps to take the wheels off, but you can do it with the wheels on if you turn them full lock.

Yes, as simple as drill holes and bolt up tight. Top tip though, because you are going to be drilling through the best part of about 4 - 5 mm of steel, get some good quality, sharp drill bits before you start. Drill a pilot hole first, i.e. use a 3 mm bit first lined up with your centre punch marks before you go for the big drill bit measured as being suitable for the bolts you're going to be using.

Before all that though, a word of caution, will your strut brace allow clearance for the bonnet to close? I've fitted a Neuspeed bar (from Awesome GTI) but since this is really intended for a Golf, the Octy bonnet will not shut unless you cut holes in the bonnet frame metal work.

If its the Audi S3 brace it fits fine, I have one on mine.

The dealer's fitting my S3 one tomorrow. I've bought all the bolts and stuff - and a nice new drill bit!

There's a few pics on my website. Yes you have to drill holes. The metal is thick - be prepared to blunt at least one drill bit.
