Air-Con Losing Gas but no leak?

Featured Replies

Hmm, my radiator appears to be quite mashed by stones. the condenser is the bit behind though isnt it?  as far as i can tell it seems ok

The condenser is in front of the radiator

ah, in that case then i think we may have identified the problem :)

I had a leak on my system. Even though I had it replaced with dye it still didn't show up. I found it in the end by spraying everything with a soapy water solution. Even though mine also had a load of stone hits, the leak was actually at the top where there was a large cap with a hex fixing.

Stone damage is very, very common on the condenser. I had to have my condenser replaced last year because of stone damage, which is why I put a fine mesh grill in the holes in the bumper to prevent future damage to the new condenser.

Excellent idea. Thnkyou

A decent air con specialist can pressurised the system with hydrogen and use an electronic sniffer to identify the leak.

Hello cbanwellclode, I like your practical tip for finding the leak on the condensor panel. I too have an aircon fault diagnosed by the main dealer as a leaking condensor, and your tip will hopefully confirm where the leak is, as the dealer gave no real detail other than it's going to cost £ 521.- to repair. Many thanks for the tip again - can't think why I didn't think of this myself though - but that's why we use this very friendly forum.
