Satnav map data for the amunsden unit

Featured Replies

Hi all. Can anyone help with some guidance. I am loving my new Yeti here in New Zealand. To date I have only seen two others!

It came with the Amunsden Radio/navigation system but there is no map data for new zealand so the Navigation element is just a nice colourful Skoda logo.

Are there any techies out there that might know how to get map data onto a SD card that might be readable by the system? Where do we even start with such a project?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a way to do it. First of all you need the Navigation CD which you should have received with the car. The method is described on page 25 of the Amundsen instructions: http://tiny.cc/axqfcw

If you didn't receive the CD I suggest you get onto your dealers as it should be included.

The best way is to borrow a genuine RNS310 FX CD made by Blaupunkt and branded as either VW, Skoda, Audi, Seat and make you own SD copy on your unit.

Or

After extensive testing and comparing by me, buy a TomTom with IQ mapping, which is far superior and use the Amundsen as a media player.

I prefer my old TomTom, Have managed to get the TomTom software to play on the Amundsen?

I have a Garmin--it's a few years old and I have paid for lifetime updates for the maps-- so I wasn't interested in a built in system, which later becomes a pain[costly] to upgrade etc--it's one of the main reasons I opted for the SE trim [didn't want leather seats either or park assist or electric seats or xenon lights or panoramic sunroof etc ..............]

Originally I was going to order the SE trim but I would have had to wait months, but at the time they had some Elegance models in stock 3 days delivery for the same price. so basicly all the extras were free.

The Amundsen like the TomTom uses maps prepared by Tele Atlas, but the Navcore (operating system) in the Amunsed is not as good as that used by TomTom.

I have not tried to adapt the TomTom software to run on the Amundsen because I have no Bluetooth installed on it, whereas the TomTom has, and answers my calls and texts.

Although I have access to all the latest Amundsen V4 maps, they are still not as good as the new 885 TomTom maps for detail.

Just curious: does anyone here use openstreetmap for navigation? I don't know about the UK, but in Germany the quality of the map is simply fantastic. The project itself originates from the UK BTW.

Yes interesting- had a look at it and for my area of the UK it was lacking a bit of detail--some of the small hamlets were missing--something for the future when it improves a bit

Thanks for the tip though

Is there any way in which the Amundsen+ can use POIs from TomTom? What happens if I put the SD card from my TomTom into the Amundsen+? I've built up quite a few POIs over the years on my TomTom and I'd really like still to be able to use them.
