jars' 2005 Fabia vRS

What's the issue dude? I just pulled on the little black holder the wires go into and it popped out?

I can't seem to get my hand in the gap to get the little black holder out. I've got OEM xenons so when I take the cover off the back i can't get my hand in the gap

Thank you guys.    I wouldn't normally spill my guts to the internet, but I had to do something in order for me to move past the initial fear and become the positive, cheeky chappie I need t

As you can tell, I’m now out the other side     The operation didn’t exactly go to plan as I’ve woken up ticking like a clock because I now have a mechanical valve. Not ideal, but I’m alive!

If it's the passenger side I would remove the plastic surround from the battery to give a bit more room. Failing that, I'd take the lights out... 3 screws and a bolt and should come away with the bumper in place. Drivers side I would remove the top plastic boost pipes out to make room.

Long nosed pliers are your friend.

(PS. Don't pull them out by the wires... Only pain you will find if on that path you tread...)

Yoda'd out for a bit there bro

After another boring day in work, it was time to pop home and grab my other"work" gear and head over to my mates garage to fit my Powerflex Dogbone mount. Although I was fully prepared to do this at home, I knew getting that big round disc in was gonna be a PITA and wanted to make it as easy as I could :p

So, rocked up and got straight on it...

Didn't take long to remove the 3 bolts holding the mount in place, nor did it take long to remove the old bush.... we went old skool

Once the old bush was pressed out, I quickly cleaned up the inside with a toffee wheel and applied the copper grease supplied with the replacement. More grease, of the white variety was then sprayed everywhere to try and help the little bugger get in it's hole :D

After 3 or 4 failed attempts using the above method, we changed tact and put the bush under the mount and it slid in first attempt.

Final pic applying the finishing touches...

... and in ....

Whilst it was on the lift we had a quick look around and noticed a couple of problems; the seal around the what I think is the drive shaft into the box? has a small leak so will keep an eye on it and there was a build up of soot on the down pipe, but not worried about this ;)

So, after starting her up on the lift I did notice a slight increase in cabin vibration but nothing that I think people should moan about. Once the engine was up to temperature, the vibrations had practically vanished. I even pulled over to see if my keys jangled, but no!

Anyway, the fun stuff.... the drive home   WOW is all I can say. what a difference in gear change response! I didn't get to go up through all the gears as I was going form one side of Bristol to the other, through the rush hour traffic. But it did give me a very good idea   Prior to fitting, my car felt really sluggish for it to engage the gear and power on, but with the Powerflex bush it is a fraction of the time it used to. Sooooo smooth now and wish I had changed it when I bought it several weeks ago

If anyone is considering one of these, DO IT!!!! It cost me 30 odd notes form Awesome GTI and whilst I can understand why people say a remap is the best cheap and essential mod, this comes first IMHO. (I know I don't have a remap yet :p )

Ignore anyone who says the vibrations are bad, not with this one. I would also say it was a doodle to fit, but I had the benefit of a working garage with tools and not having to press that bush in the mount using the car and my trolly jack allows me to say that. :giggle:  Had I needed to do this at home I was willing and in my limited experience, is doo-able for someone like myself, so give it a go!

Been following all your work, great job. Wish i had a garage to work in though. :(

Only problem now is, you've made me add another item onto my 'Want To Do' list with the dogbone mount!! :D Reading these threads cost me money!! :D

Ha so true! This place ruins bank balances!

Thanks for your kind words :) Yeah it's been really handy having my own garage, and a mate with a proper one

I nearly exceeded my overdraft on ebay earlier, paint and shiny LEDs :(

Would have been worth it had it been something worth while.... but not paint and LED's :p

Cool, I had thought of taking the lights out to put the new sidelights in. Thought it was more difficult than that though.

Cheers, never thought of using long nosed pliers, will try that next time and then if not will resort to removing the lights all together.

Another cheeky little update. Finally replaced my spare key as I lost the other ages ago :giggle:

Zeb rocked up at my house 30 minutes early, bumped into joshH (nice to meet you fella and the car sound alright pulling away  ) and met with Actionman at a local services. Nice and quick service, no faffing around and got a nice shiny new Bentley key.

Cheers for that mate. Hope your onward trip was alright dude!

:giggle:  I was going to keep it as my spare, but that would mean giving it to the missus and that wasn't happening

Handing the keys to the missus is a big no, no lol. I noticed my Bentley key sometime jams and it's not properly aligned. Is yours the same?

Yeah I just mentioned this to Josh on Instagram... was only the once but did freak me out for 5 seconds :D

Phew, I thought I was the only one with a small fault. Josh seemed like a genuine guy, will look forward to see him at Castle Combe. I do love it, hate the old tacky OEM Skoda Key

It's nothing to worry about. A few uses will loosen it up ;)

Loving the new pics. I do like the Bentley key :) a great little upgrade.

Update on the led fog lights. The passenger side one looks fantastic, not been out in the dark yet. The driver side one only has 1 tiny smd light up. I did notice the connector had corroded into the fog light unit itself, so may be the culprit

Cheers, Charlie. Yeah I thought I asked for an OEM one TBH but won't moan as they are nice!

Ah! What a pain :( Give it a clean up and see then replace if no change?

Yeah is a bit of a pest. I'll try take it apart again when I can. Annoyingly I forgot to test them until the car was all put back together, so might have to remove the bumper again

Don't be hard on yourself... I would have done the same  :giggle:

  • 2 weeks later...

Any updates?

Not as yet, but getting closer ;) I went to work the other day, parked up and got a stark reminder that I need to concentrate when I park....

Took delivery of a replacement grill and surround. I found myself at times thinking the original set-up looks better, but would change my mind later, so have a replacement for those days... now looking for some silver fog surrounds to complete the second look :bandit:

On another note, Zeb, have you noticed your new key taking slightly longer to react when pressing a button? Nothing major or anything to worry about, just an obvious difference I noticed :wonder:

You gotta be very careful from now, don't want you to scrape the front end of your Fabia now. I haven't noticed both the keys, will have a look at it tonite. My key stills jams when I press the button, not a happy chappy bare in mind we paid £100 for the it!
