heater fan speed

Featured Replies

any ideas as to why the heater blower in my mk 1 fabia only works on speeds 2,3,and 4 totaly dead on position 1 please help.

Id guess that your heater resistor is on the way out. Pinned thread at the top of this thread entitled, extremely useful Fabia links is the place to look. It has part numbers and an installation guide.

I'm taking bets at 3 to 1 the speed 2 packs up in the next fortnight. ;)

New resistor needed. Not an expensive part from memory but fiddly to change and a link on here somewhere to use as a guide.

Yep fan speed resistor has gone. Most parts places stock this part. Easy to get hold of in the shops, hard to get a hold of the damn thing while it's in place in your glove compartment.

Follow the guide on this site;)

Agree with the above. Did mine in less than half an hour following the site thread and was lucky enough to pick up the part for a tenna.

If you progress through this section you should find a similar response I posted giving part ref and associated link etc. Good luck.

The part was 40 quid when I bought it last year from Skoda. GSF do it for slightly less circa 30 quid - part number 932VG0160 and there are also a number of refurbers on the net.

Mine burnt out when we had the hot snap last October and it took out a brand new pollen filter in the process.

I'd argue with all of the above.

My fan stopped working on position number 1 a year ago and nothing has changed since.

I swapped the resistor and even the entire control panel and neither had any affect what-so-ever.

I've just resigned myself to the fact it's broken :D

You could have a point with that. In my case it was fairly conclusive in that 1 to 3 had failed leaving only 4 working. I have a reasonably local vw/audi parts breaker hence the cheap part in question.

Yep i bought a resistor coil and new control panel from a breaking car on here.

Changed both but it made no difference at all

Had a quick look at Haynes. It would appear that from Fuse 68, the +12 goes to the switch and then on to the motor. Have you checked for +12 on the motor ? There's a fuse like symbol on the resistor board .In the absence of a meter, I'd suggest a sidelight bulb wouldn't be too much of a draw on current.

The really weird thing about it is that sometimes it works so what could it be if it was the resistor surely it wouldnt work at all, thanks to everyone who has helped so far.

lucky you mine only works on setting 4 nuthing from 1 2 or 3 lol ill swap you my resister thingy for yours lol :rock:

Once again in terms a layman can understand :S

I have had nothing through 1 for well over a year and in the last couple of days 2 has only been working intermittently which is strange. 3 and 4 working fine.

Car in the garage having an oil change and asked the guy to have a look at the problem as well so will be interesting to see what he comes up with.....resister or someting else.

Once again in terms a layman can understand :S

Check fuse 68 - if OK-then look for 12 volts on the switch ( pin 5 on Haynes) .And then on to other parts of the circuit. As i said, if you've got no meter, then I'd suggest that a testlamp made from a sidelight bulb ( lighton =12 volts,if otherside conected to ground) would help.

Again ,if this is too technical for you ,best resort is to auto electrician . I'd post up the diagram, but it might cause copyright problems, and from your posts, would you understand it . ( Not having a go ,but I'M from an electrical background)

Thanks VWD :)

I get what you mean and yes it does skim my hair on it's way over my head

I'll check the fuse and make sure my father in law brings his multimeter with him on his next visit!
