my daughter has a 03plate 1.8t 150hp octavia, she said a couple of weeks ago had trouble getting first gear. I drove the car and had no problems! I went out yesterday got about 5 ft from curb car stopped!! and wouldnt move.It felt like she was in 1st and reverse at the same time. couldnt get the gear lever to come out of first gear! even with the engine turned off, still wouldnt come out. The car had a new clutch fitted 2 years ago.

started the engine tonight to have a quick look got the car into reverse car moved, but I couldnt get the car out of reverse!! turned the engine off lever was stuck!! after alot of pulling came out!! with the engine switched off can only get 2nd gear will not go in any other! started the engine again managed to get into 1stgear, again gear lever was then stuck and struggled to get her out of gear again!! apart form the 1st gear problem a couple of weeks ago, there never has been any noise from the gearbox or clutch! only thing I can think of is gearbox bearings collapsed!

Gearbox selector maybe needs aligned theres a how to on you tube iirc for both 5 and 6 speeds

Or maybe new clutch release bearing req?
