Yeti Still Holding Residuals - No Surprise Though.

If you add .html to the latter...

The list claims to consist of "models that were on sale three years ago" in the UK. As the Yeti wasn't, the article lives up to Auto Express's usual standards of care and accuracy (not). Presumably they had to compare the Yeti's depreciation over two and a half years with those of other cars over three years.

The Yeti has been around in the UK since August 2009, and as our dealer has given us a trade-in price for our Yeti based on 3 years/45k when our new Yeti is expected, the projections quoted by Auto Express (and, incidentally, the Daily Telegraph) seem pretty reasonable. Suffice to say that the Yeti has proved a very sound buy.

You need to read the article. "The percentages given aren’t predictions". How, then, could they have been arrived at? The fact that your dealer is willing to quote you a future value has nothing to do with this article and its methodology, which is either flawed or else very carelessly explained.

I am not denying the Yeti is a 'sound buy', nor casting doubt on your exceptional sagacity in buying one. I am pointing out that Auto Express is, as usual, full of shoddy journalism.

the Skoda Yeti was in very high demand, and lead times of nine or 10 months for a new model mean “dealers can really charge a premium for used examples”.

This waiting time, if the conclusion is true, skews the residual value of the car. It means, i) that Škoda can make residuals worse by increasing their rate of production and, ii) that the residual value of the Yeti is not a reliable item as it's based on such a changeable value.

I have a Yeti on order, on the understanding that it will arrive by September 2012, from Vindi's in Cambridge. I've been promised a Build Week after about a month from the order (made on 30 March); if the delivery date turns out to be past September, my attachment to my order will wane to the extent that I will go for a X1. I'll be a bit sad, but it took me a while to plump for the SM over the BMW.

Then perhaps it was me being sloppy - I suppose CAP (the source of the figures which AE and a number of other sites have reproduced) are in the business of providing "futures" - as would be needed by someone buying, say, a new Evoque on a PCP. And the value offered on our car is not a prediction either. Anyway, either way, the Yeti has worked well for us.
