Old Top Gear Skoda Tuning!

Featured Replies

This may have been posted before but i've only just seen it. Its awesome!

Yep, I started a thread about it last year.

Old Top Gear

Ok, who thinks Teflon Tom was in there somewhere ??

Pfft.. Fiat twinc... That's too tame for my liking o_O

Mid engined though.... get on it Tom!!!

the only engine I would even consider sticking in one of those is a Volvo t5 engine.. None of these namby bamby 1300 skoda pushrod lawnmower type things :wonder: I think I have issues.

You've only got issues if you can't make it happen. ;)

Can you? Red rag to a bull and all that, but seeing a T5 or the Audi or Focus RS version of it in there would be astounding.

Haha... Swmbo would be very understanding I'm sure, I can just imagine it now :wonder: she hasn't found out about my felicia 1.8t project yet either :wonder:

Seriously guys, one of them old skodas is definitely a laughing stock, plus they are rarer than rocking horse semen, i do have my credibility to consider here dont you know! Besides from that who in their right mind would want a tuned up car in this current climate? It would cost £20 to get to the end of the road and back.

however if there is some mystery benefactor who would donate me an old estelle or rapid for free I could be persuaded to do it

Oh dear... VBH :@

What, like I've got in mine ?? :punch:

If you're not up to the job just say so :o

OOOO I think you've upset Daisy now Tom. :o :o :o :o :o

(Think she's rather fond of her Felly ;) )

It's crying out for a 1.8T transplant & we all know a man that can! New thread?

 I'm game for a laugh, want my postcode? Bring a trailer!

You serious dave? I could bring the aforementioned trailer

need to do some serious thinking about that in terms what would be the best engine choice?? Any suggestions? I'm thinking about stuff that's 200bhp upwards like a yb cossie engine or similar.

I think the last RWD Skoda project Tom was involved in got sold unfinished.....theres a thread or two - abandoned!

In the thread Tom talks about how well engineered the old Skoda pushrod engine is.....bit of an about face! (I happen to love the old Skud pushrod engine for its simplicity if not its power!)

KieranZXT has fitted a Rover K-series to his and it goes very well, Jay Ivey has a mid engined MB1000 with a k-series in it - it was featured in Practical Performance Cars last year.

If you search on here you can find all manner of amazing stuff - http://skoda-virt.cz/cz/

Might be good for some ideas.....anything with more than 120bhp will need a different gearbox

I've seen an Ebay/Youtube vid of an Estelle with a Mazda engine in it

Glad to hear it emoticon-0148-yes.gif

yeh that old skud is my brothers, I got the hump with him because he was more interested in putting daft seats in it rather than making the think run, plus he ****ed my neighbour right off too which caused a lot of friction..

yes the skooda engines are well engineered, by proxy they need to be otherwise they wouldn't work! However they are old hat by modern standards.

The rest of the car is also old hat so sticking a 200bhp engine in one is going to involve new brakes, gearbox, driveshafts and probably suspension too because the old Skud lump is a proper flyweight unit.....under 100kgs complete. Look at the weight of something like an Audi turbo and you'll find its near double probably.

The famous Spazda! It's long gone I'm afraid.....good idea for a swap though - the engine is nice and light.

I was trying to find a Youtube clip but not sure if it was the one, late eighties Estelle in "grandad's gardening trousers" green

If you're serious then I am too. I have a Rapid that would be perfect for what you need. I have so many Skoda projects and this particular car is unlikely to get any attention from me any time soon. TBH I prefer RWD Skodas just as they came from Skoda, but I reckon a super fast one would be rather good especially if powered by a fast modern Skoda engine. I do struggle a bit with modifying such a rare car, but the late Rapid's are more plentiful than any other RWD Skoda so I don't feel so bad!

I don't want to sound pompous or self righteous ect but please only take this on if you really are going to get this car on the road. I'd hate to see it chopped about for modifications then scrapped. If that happened it may as well have sat in my barn waiting for me to restore it the usual way.

Also, this car needs a lot of work...it's basically a rolling shell. It has no engine, gearbox or driveshafts...though in this instance that's no problem. It has virtually no interior, the shell needs some welding though not loads and there are no front wings. I have some reasonablish used wings and new ones are available.

Anyway, if you're prepared to take it on and get it on the road however you like then you can have it free of charge. I'd love to see its progress on here and even better for me, in the Skoda Owners' Club magazine. I'd much rather give it away and see it saved and enjoyed than it sit in the coner of my barn.

^ omg dave that is the holy grail... That is crying out to be hotrodded...

i do like the idea of that in principal, there is so much potential in one of those, all it would need is the engine putting in the correct place and about 400bhp then job done :wonder: but I can't take that one until ive finished with the felicia project, I won't have 2 projects going at once!

 That's fair enough. Are you thinking mid or front engined? Obviously the correct place is rear! :sun:
