Clutch drag

Featured Replies

I've just had the clutch replaced on my Octavia with a single mass flywheel clutch. Apart from poor finishing on the fly wheel the clutch has gone on and is solid but I am now suffering from drag with the clutch biting near the floor. It is worst in first and reverse and the clutch has to be fully depressed when changing gear now.

With the clutch being fed in I can feel it snatching as it begins to bite which didn't happen before. The clutch has been properly bled.

Is there anything else that can be done to improve the clutch lift? As the clutch is larger than on dual clutch models should it have a different slave cylinder?

Uprated clutch too?

I had an uprated helix and smf on my fabia vrs.... And there trait is they bite like a rotweiler on your leg.... Which i love....

Possibly just the strong bite your not used to? Mins was also hard to change from first at low revs but again was a trait of the smf conversion

I'm guessing you had a new single mass flywheel aswell as the clutch,

What parts did you use and how many miles have you done since having it done, oh and what engine you got in your octavia

Did you touch owt on the hydraulic side? Might need bleeding?

I got the complete unit from Nationwide Clutch Distributors, Blackpool. I know it is a cheap e-bay unit but I am only doing a few thousand miles a year in my 1.9 Tdi now so could not justify the full cost of a quality conversion.

It has only done a few miles since. It is perfect fully home with no hint of vibration and the guy who did the work is a fully qualified VW mechanic.

On my SAAB I cured the snatch on a new clutch by grinding it in in top gear with the brakes on. A bit smokey but it worked very well. However that wouldn't deal with the clutch drag which is my main concern.

Thanks for the replies.

my monies on it needs bleeding

check the master clyinder isn't sticking therefore not releasing smoothly.

i had a similar prob to this on my vrs after doing a g60/vr6 conversion.

How much for a g60/vr6 conversion if you don't mind me asking

Sorry for butting in on your thread king john

the flywheel is about £120 and the clutch kit is about the same. just the labour on top then :)

Thanks for that :0)
