so, i changed the engine from a 1.3 to 1.9, was a good 2 days work! i only got some small things to do...

BUT, i think the engine looks slightly higher on the left side (facing from the front) is this normal? or there should be a spacer between the engine mount bracket and the mounting itself?? maybe to lower it a bit down?

one more thing, are the 1.3 gearbox and 19 diesel gearbox the same? apart the factory flange.. ?

yes it's not uncommon for vw engines to be higher at one end on most models..

the gearbox is different because it has shorter gear ratios and final drive, it will fit the diesel engine though because the transmission casing is exactly the same... The flange needs to be bolted to the gearbox before you attach it to the end too.

So its normal that is slightly higher from one end? I have the 19diesel gbox, i wqs asking to see if i will keep the 1.3 gearbox as a spare instead of trowing it away

DId you use the mounting from the 1.3 or the 1.9 (the black metal triangular bit that has 3 bolts that attach to the gearbox, and a rubber mount that has a single bolt that attaches via a link to the subframe)? They are different between the 1.3 and the 1.9, so that could be part of it?

As Tom says, the 1.3 box has lower overall gearing (gears are the same, final drive ratio is different) so it wouldn't be much use as a spare. Diesel boxes don't seem to be hard to get hold of anyway, I got one in perfect order for 99p once!

The triangular mounting i used is from the 1.3 but the position etc are the same as i checked them between the 1.9 and 1.3 and the skoda dealer told me that i can use the 1.3 one if i already had a good one. As for the the other mounting your saying, its the one found under the driver side?(on rhd) found on formans and favorit? I tought felicia didnt have that mounting!! As when i took the engine out it didnt have one! And also when i searched for new mountings for the 1.9 it didnt gave me that one... Confused. Thanks for your replys !!

ok no the felicia does not have that mounting just the 2 ends and the lower gearbox one, the engines do sit higher at the cambelt end and slope down so thats fine.
