Creaking noise after changing wheels

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have an Octavia classic and had steel wheels on them until yesterday when I changed them to factory alloys. It used to be 15" but now they are 16". Since I've changed them the car keeps making a creaking sound when moving off from a standstill and when steering. Does anyone know what the reason could be. I was told that I might need spacers and I have used the bolts from the steel wheels. I am going to take it for diagnostics tomorrow but if someone know what the reason could be I could save some money :)

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

Jack the car up and see if there's any play in any of the wheels, it could be that the bolts from the steel wheels are too long. DO NOT drive it any further until you have checked this!

The bolts are all the same on the Octavia range. Regardless of wheel type.

What wheels are they? Are they a standard Mk1 Octavia wheel?

Have you checked that the bolts are all done up properly?

Yeap both of them are standard Mk1 wheels. The bolts were done by a local garage so I believe that they are done properly.

Possibly when being lowered from the jack one of the coil springs has fractured, not uncommon if it already had a hairline crack??

You know what they about assumptions.... Trust noone, and check everything!

What are the standard Octy alloys wheels? I have a set of Elegance (winter) and L&K (summer) for mine...

Did your car used to have the 16 on it, or have you just sourced a set from somewhere?

Thanks you all for the replies. I've been to the local garage and they figured out what the problem was. The front lower suspension arm rear support bolt was loose. They tightened it and its all good now.

Thanks all once again :)
