Looking for Mk1 Fabia VRS - advice please.

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place but I am after some advice on buying a mk1 Fabia VRS.

Any common things to look out for on these?

I went for a test drive and viewing of my first one today and really liked it, is a 55plate with 38000 miles for just under 7 grand from a main dealer. However noticed a couple of things that I would prefer to be sorted for the price they are asking, or maybe you guys can tell me if I am being too picky.

It had the leaky door seals which to be honest I was expecting as this seems to affect everyone. How much of an issue of this and how easily sorted? The carpets weren't soaking but were slightly damp, bottoms of the rear doors were leaking fairly badly.

Discs fairly worn and lipped all round, pads looked a little low but not terrible. Again for that price I would prefer all these replaced, am I being unreasonable?

Thirdly the oil was pretty black with a little bit of gunk under the filler cap. I gather that oil in a diesel can be blacker but this had just been changed. Is this normal or cause for concern?

fresh oil in a diesel turns black very quickly

That is massively over priced, even from a main dealer. I'd want all that done including a service for 6k, let alone 7k. To put it into context, i brought mine 2 years ago, 05 reg with 36,000mls for 5.2k

Have you had a look at the marketplace on here?

All the cars look good, however in every one of them they have a minimum of £800 quid more than what I would pay. The first one (the one you have look at) I agree with one of the comments above, about a £1000 too much for the state of the car as you describe it. Now be aware that this car is with very low mileage BUT the car is almost 7 years old so IT WILL NEED timing belt as soon as you drive it out. TB job is not just by mileage, time (as years) is very important as well. The dealer will keep telling you how low the mileage is but he will never tell you that you NEED timing belt job NOW.

So keep this in mind.

Good luck

thank you padrino. useful advice. I forgot to mention that it has just had the timing belt done by the dealer. Yeah it was nice but as you say a bit highly priced... maybe i'll wait and see if it takes a while to sell.

This is good news if they done the TB, however make sure that you have all the paperwork confirming that :D

Go back to the dealer and tell them to do the brakes AND discs all around and you will give them £6 :) Hey you never know what could happen if you don't try.

If they do the brakes all around I would pay £6K with year MOT and 6 months tax. Go and push them, times are hard, no many people around could afford £6 K for a car at the moment.

Good luck

i will - yeah never know

Really over-priced!!! I got my motor just over month ago for £3800 2006 with 80k miles

Paid 5000 plus part ex worth 500 for my 06 vrs over 7 month ago from main dealer, years mot, 6mth tax 4 new tyres, service and timing belt done, 1 year warranty, car had 57000 on the clock at the time. screen price was 6k.

7k is way much m8.

If the timing belt was done, the water pump should be replaced at the same time.

one thing I did not check was the trip computer. too busy checking other things on the drive but not sure I remember seeing anything in the left hand display . how do the computers on these work? is there an option to have the display off ?

just wondering what sort of mileage these cars will go on to do. should I be concerned about buying one with 80k plus on it.

looking for something that will last me 4 to 5 years.

All way over priced,
