  • So today I took the cluster surround out and thought I'd attempt to carbon wrap it.... Alot more difficult that I thought..... So first attempt was an utter fail. Started with this: Got to this :

  • I've done mine too I need a bit of help How do I remove the frame around the instruments (speedometer) I remove the upper 2 screws, but it wont get out

  • Nice work. Tempted to do my glovebox as the wife has covered it in scratches with her handbags, and putting her feet up on it!

the one from the link in here...was cheap so just going to try. if it peels it peels but im not expecting hot temperatures here!

here is very hot 36-38 deg C....and for now the foil looks perfect

so,this is the final work, plus some details I worked

This is the first time when I'm doing this, and wasn't very easy at all ,it took me overall allmost 10 hours.Maybe I'm not very skilled, who knows...

Got to get mine done now!!, looks cool

How do you remove the light switch surround and air vents??, bought some carbon and want to get wrapping!

if you are talking about the hazzard switch....first you remove the double air vent and the switch comes from the back

I did mean the air vents in general and the headlight switch surround, but I'll try the hazard switch too!!

light switch - press and turn ,will pop out, then just pull the frame

the air vents - you need to insert at least 2 blades (see picture) to press the clips, then gently pull out the air vent.Don't force them, the dash may tear,is a soft material

I used some kitchen knifes with round edges :cocktail:

It'll be like being in a carbon fibre co****. Interested to see the airbag in place.

My car is not a VRS ,and the interior looks a bit bland. Some carbon triming is welcomed. It feels right when you sit inside, believe me

Tomorow I'll put the airbag back and take a picture.

And btw ,I can peel off the foil in a few seconds.

Err m8 I seriously don't think wrapping the air bag is a good idea!

Tomorow I'll put it back ,and we'll see...anyway I apreciate your opinions

Err no I mean in a safety kind of way! Wrapping the air bag is gonna make it harder for the bag to come out which can result it blowing your head off!

+1

Unwrapping it would be a good idea

Read a post somewhere from an ex motor engineer that used to test air bags, a coin stuck to the steering wheel has enough force to go though someone's head when the air bag goes off. Now think about what if the the explosive force is more restricted than designed?

The airbag is out of warranty,my car is 11 years old,and the airbags must be changed after 8 years (it says on the manual)

I have no worries in case of an accident, the foil is vey thin (0.2mm) and has 2 cuts ,around the logos so it will tear instantly. The airbag's upholstery has at least 2mm and is designeg to tear.

This is how it looks, and will stay like that :)

Got bored whilst i was waiting for mine to be fixed so joined you with the carbon wrap

Personally I wouldnt want anything that might hinder the airbag deployment when I need it most!

Atleast that one doesn't need a new dash lol

Kudos on wrapping the steering wheel. Looks like a good job! Personally a little too much carbon for my liking though.
