Dogs in a Roomster

Featured Replies

Hi Folks. Anybody out there carry a dog or dogs in their Roomster. We have a greyhound (She's not a big one), and currently have an Octavia estate. As the dog takes the boot when we travel I use a roofbox for luggage.

I am going to get a newer car and was just going to get another octavia but I like the Roomster (don't know why but I love how they look !).

Any experiences of carrying dogs in one would be appreciated. I know she will fit as Greyhounds fold themselves up to sleep anywhere, in the Octavia she can stand up and turn around on long journeys.

Thanks

My wife takes our three greyhounds in her Roomster - with the rear seats folded up - I will try to get a picture.

Nice one, thanks bgw.

We carry 4 Whippets and 2 pugs in ours (in cages).

I removed the rear seats completely as the cages are a permanent fixture. You would not believe how heavy the seats are. I must be getting an extra 10 miles to the gallon. :giggle:

If you are carrying a dog, get something to spread over the back bumper to protect the paintwork. I use a small towel.

They're a damn sight nippier without the rear seats in too!!

We have a collie/whippet cross and there is plenty of room in the back for her. The only really issue fro her is that she cant really see out cos the boot floor is low. Also her cage is quite large. It fits really snug in the boot but I have had to take the cage door off (cos it wouldnt open over the large boot lip). I also got a waterproof boot liner which works a treat as it has a bumber protector (she is long haired a gets really wet) http://www.skodaparts.com/product/roomster-waterproof-bootliner-2006-2011-21382

We can get our three dogs ok and they all seem fine. We have one swiss mountain dog, one cross bernese dog and a whippet. All jump in and out ok and just move the seats forward to give them a bit more room. Our daughters still have enough room in the back seats but the car does feel heavy!

Our old car was the Saab 9-5 estate and to be honest the Roomster is way better for space. The straight back makes it much better to fit everything in.

We have two beasts who regularly go in the back.

The 'not being able to see out' is a bit of an issue for both of them and they scrabble a bit to watch the world go by at the start of a journey, but soon the sounds (and fragrances) of two dogs sleeping fill the car.

Mmm.

We have a cage at the top of the rear seats which we originally intended would stop them trying to jump into the rear seats, but that hasn't been an issue so now we keep it really for safety reasons to stop numerous kilos of flying pug or Jack Russell smacking us in the back of the head should we have a bump.

Thanks everyone so far. Its looking positive for the Roomster.

I saw that Skoda are doing 25% off certain new 1.2 SE models, but then realised they don't seem to have roof bars on that model.....

From what I have understood retrofitting roof bars is not really possible, so if you want to ever transport something on the roof, make sure you get the roof bars when ordering the car. Actually in Finland it is not even possible to order a Roomster without the roof bars...

Yes you can. But it's quite expensive. Skoda quoted me £380.

To get over the problem of opening the cage door, I stand the cage on 2 pieces of 4" x 2" timber which are braced with 2 thin pieces of wood. I still had to refit the cage door higher by a couple of inches.

Skoda owners seem to have a fondness for Whippets apparently.

Good idea. Might try that.
