Best selling cars: UK First Quarter

Featured Replies

Normally magazines in the UK only ever publish the top 10 list of cars sold. You have to pay the SMMT a LOT of money to get the rest of the list and even then journalist only ever refer to these numbers very fleetingly (not wanting to upset any advertisers) and thus they don't ever publish the whole list. Well this website got it from somewhere and published all 316 cars listed for sale in the UK (bar the LR Defender for some reason) for the first quarter of sales in the UK for 2012:

http://bestsellingca...models-ranking/?

So where is Škoda?

27/316: Fabia

35/316: Octavia

79/316: Yeti

93/316: Superb

150/316: Roomster

But look at the brave, brave souls at the bottom of the list. FIVE fools parted money to own an MG TF!!!!!! TWENTY FIVE people bought a Ssangyong Rodius!!!!! I can only but shake my head in disbelief.

Yeti outselling Superb, didn't think that would happen.

Anyway, I like the Ssangyong Rodius (don't love it), I would definitely buy it if I want a 7 seater. Furthermore at 14995, it's really good value.

Very enlightening. Do people really part with their hard earned money to drive a Nissan Juke though?

Reading further down, 12 people bought a Proton??? From where???

And..... 11 bought a Saab 9-5, oh dear, what's the residual on that?!

Interesting reading, cheers Johann.

Someone bought a Cube!!!

No one bought a MG 6 then, they've been sussed :giggle:

I definately see more Yeti's on the road than Superbs.

No matter how well Pluto does in BTCC, no-one is going to buy one, are they? Really?

I actually saw one in the flesh on Monday evening on my way back coming down the M40, so somebody has bought one

People didn't necessarily 'buy' them; they have to be registered some time (probably by whatever is left of the company) so that they can filter down into the used market.

I suggest that the top sellers are not Private sales,

but Fleet Purchases by Motability Finance to lease for 3 years and Hire Company's buying.

I would be interested to Know how Many Buys of the likes of a Range Rover Evoque or a Yeti being First Registered in 2012 where actually Bought/ordered, deposit paid, back in early 2011 & only just getting supplied.

I've seen three and every single one had a fairly large MG dealer sticker on the back bumper (nothing on the sides strangely)... So Mike unless you saw it from behind it might also have just been a dealer registered (demo) car. Without diesels they are doomed that lot.

I'm quite suprised by some of those figures, I thought skoda would have done better even the A6 did better than the octy and vauxhall insignia sold twice as many, I think it must be the vauxhall warranty, most taxis round me are swapping to vauxhall or Hyundai/Kia it about time skoda started doing 5 year warranties, even the Bloody french are offering 4!

There is one new MG6 for sale at a dealer close to me, its the top of the range one, price is £14995. Get in quick folks it's a bargain.

I would have thought that a big number of those Insignia sales are down to fleet/company purchase.

Every rep that walks in here trying to flog us this and that seems to drive some form of Vauxhall or Ford.

Fully agree with sk4gw about motability bumping those numbers up in the top end of the table.

Granted, a longer warranty would be more enticing.

I just looked at the article again and in fact it states:

"Designed in China and supposed to revive the legendary MG brand in the UK, the MG6 seems to finally take off, up 58 spots on its 2011 level to #161 with 441 sales and 0.1% share."

So why are you saying no-one bought an MG6 then? And I know they don't have 441 dealers so at least 400 fools parted with their money to own one of these...

Mg-rover forums have a few owners of them!

Another shock (as a Yeti owner) was the upstarts Kia and Hyundai's Yeti competitor sales!!!!!!!! Yikes. Kia Sportage at number 57 with sales of 3,229 and the pig ugly Hyundai iX35 at number 66 with 2,584 sales! That is 5,813 sales in total on that platform versus the Yeti's paltry 1,819!!! That is TONS more sales from these upstarts than the "established" Škoda brand managed with a product (the Yeti) that has won tons of awards!!! What gives here?! Only the warranty? Do people really just look at a warranty and decide against the class best to buy something pig ugly just because it has a decent warranty?! Or do they have 3 times as many dealers? Or is it Škodas waiting lists and utter inability to supply enough vehicles to satisfy demand? Ah yes... there is the answer then I guess. Sad. Really sad.

Some idiot also bought an Aston Martin One...cough toyota cough cough

Did they buy it though, I was told they were giving them away with certain AM's

No you have your Aston Martin's mixed up. TWENTY SEVEN people bought an Aston Martin Cygnet (at number 267) which is the Toyota iQ clone. The Aston Martin ONE-77 you refer to is the very, very scarce (well 77 in total in fact) top of the range Aston.

So there are more idiots than you thought.

Well the Octy was best selling car in Sligo in 2011........

more seriously I did read somewhere it was 2nd best selling car across Ireland last year, I just can't find the written source. I see them everywhere though. Most irish people aren't too bothered about badges and flash, and besides we're in the middle of a recession, and our roads, while now driveable are still in a generally sh*te state, and word that these things go, go, and keep going, and that they're dirt cheap to boot, obviously has gotten around.

No one bought an MG6 in the 1st. Qtr. according to the list.

I'd have one as long as it had been fettled by 888 racing....but wouldn't touch a standard one.

No matter how well Pluto Plato [please] does in BTCC, no-one is going to buy one, are they? Really?
