more power?

Featured Replies

That is a good question.......what is the benefit? Steevie Wonder has done this, judging by his list of mods.

And yes I'd love big brakes and I doo have the money for it as well......but the calipers are all mahousive and at the moment I have only about a fag paper's gap between the inside of my lovely dished alloys and my standard calipers and that's with 10mm spacers!! Honestly, unless I can find a big brake kit with a comparable offset to the standard calipers then they're not going to fit.

I asked Brian at Jabbasport about upgrading the brakes when I got the IHI kit fitted and his recommendation was to change all the discs and pads to brand new Mintex items and flush, refill and bleed the brake system...and so that's what he did. Funnily enough it works just fine. No it's not a racing car but it still stops pretty smartish. If anyone has any recommendations on upgraded pads though, then I'm happy to listen to those in the know

ds2500 pads with motul 600 brake fluid

but i would recomend you just upgrade to the brembo kit you would only need another 5 mm clearence at a guess

i have the perfect set including ds2500 pads bigger discs and braided lines and the difference well is truly different league !!!!

the benifit of removing the above is less things to go wrong ;-)

I haven't even got 5mm left of clearance between the tyre and the arch on the back unfortunately. I'd hate to spend the money on buying your brake kit off you, only to have to re-sell it again straight away. It's a conundrum that's for sure. Part of me thinks though that if I have bigger disks then with a dished alloy, if I'm moving the caliper out from the centre of the wheel then I should gain more clearance, the further the caliper is sited from the hub.....does that make any sense? I'll take a photo tomorrow and post it and you can see what I mean. It's about time I unveiled the car after being incognito for so long :wonder:

depends on the design of the wheel if the outer parts are further out then you might be alright on the rear you could run 1mm shims and the issue with arch goes away !! just like gee-man

imo with your car its a must and if that means running 5 mm more just on the fron then thats what should be done

standard brakes are rubarb with that soort of power !!!

if you combined the r32 front end im selling with the brakes you will have an absolute machine that will be in a completly different league to what you got now !!!

Never underestimate brakes. Having got used to mine (360mm fronts with AP 6pots & 330mm rears) whenever I jump into anyone else's car and drive I find myself SH!!ting myself as it won't stop!! Having driven my mates new rs focus, I really appreciate how good my setup is. In simple terms I can stop quicker from 160mph than the oem setup can from 80/90mph.

Speed/performance is nothing without control!!

Steve :)

Damn my fat fingers....I did mean to type that I don't have a whole lot of anything space wise on the front. If I go any wider then each wheel will be in a different postcode :giggle:

I hear what you're all saying though......honestly I do. And thanks for the input.

And Steve, I've seen your brake set up first hand and short of firing retro rocket boosters and deploying a parachute every time you hit the anchors....I'd say you have just about the ultimate set up. I think my arms are too short and my pockets too long to find the money for those though!! Don't your wing mirrors melt on re-entry when you slow down from silly speeds? At the very least I'm sure you probably look like Jezzer Clarkson now, after too many 20+G stoppies

Missingmyvrs, and anyone else for that matter.......what's the difference between the R32 front end and my standard mk1 Octy VRS and what's the advantage of using that set up? I need edjoomacating :wonder:

And here starts your downward spiral of wallet emptying :)

quick rack

cast arms ( the ones im selling have superpro cator bushes in brand new )

different hub design

allows a much better setup with a fast car setup

everything is 100% better than stock vrs setup

if you get a chance or some local that has the setup go out for a spin imo the r32 front end upgrade is the ultimate for these cars the last 3 of my vrs had this upgrade !!! transforms the car

do a search there is plent of info on here about just how good it is !!!

its hard to explain just how good the r32 setup is coupled with brakes and a good geo setup will make your car feel so much faster without an increase in bhp !!!

imo a mapped vrs standard turbo with big brakes and r32 setup with lsd will out perform a 300+ bhp car without it all day long

Yup SNH.....sounds like I should never have asked.....I can feel some pain coming on already. 20 months and 30k miles I've been amused by my car and now I'm convinced I need to rebuild the front end of my car in pursuit of true happiness......I've already blamed Steevie Wonder for setting the ball rolling and now I'm about to blame missingmyvrs for the onslaught......what have I done :wall:

lol the joys of modding ;-) if you knew how much ive spent over the last 5 years lol

si (snh) will post your crimbo pressie tomoz ;-)
