Featured Replies

my vrs is currently running the following:-

cai

milltek full system + decat

uprated dv

n249 + n112 removal

silicone hoses

remapped to 229.8 bhp

im currently sorting a fmic but im wondering whats involved to get to the 300 bhp mark, im looking for cost and parts i would have to change

cheers

I'm sure other experts who have already been down this road will be along soon but I would say,

Hybrid turbo/garret, bigger injectors, larger maf, different remap/tweaked and most important a nice big set of uprated stoppers for the extra power :D

a few ££££ and you will get 300bhp

Additional engine parts over a typical stage 2 setup:

IHI vf34 turbo (different oil & coolant lines)

Exhaust manifold

Down pipe & sports cat

440cc Bosch green injectors

S3 fuel pump (tank mounted)

Bigger intake pipe work

S3 MAF

Scat rods (20mm pins). OEM rods are ok, but they are a potential weak link.

Custom remap

It is expensive but well worth it!!

Don't expect any change out of 2k.

Steve

prob cheaper buying a writen off leon cupra r,and putting engine, brakes, etc in,u will start with a slightly stronger engine and bigger turbo and also a better gearbox

.......or you could leave well alone and save yourself a fortune.

where's the fun in that? Lol :)

Sticking an intercooler on will help no end!!

GT28 or a hybrid K04 should do it.

I'd say way more than 2k if you want to do the job properly.

For starters with that power you'd need a LSD which is £1k+ for a Quaife.

Wouldn't it be more pratical to make it go round the corners and stop better than making it big power that you carn't get down to the floor anyway

Very true, if you want to blow a couple of grand on the car spend it on some KW v3's, a full TT/R32 front end and big brakes. Then you'd have the handling to match your 230bhp.

My figure of 2k was ONLY for engine parts.

If you include chassis/running gear mods then yes, i've spent well into five figures.....

Am I glad I did it - YES!!!

Would I do it again...NO!!!

power without control is pointless

you need all the handling mod + an LSD

but an LSD is the same cost as octavia 4x4 ...

so you could buy that, transfer your vrs bumpers and bits across (vrs rep), get decent suspension & ARB kit (same cost as for vrs)

and have a better handling car than a vrs even with diff could ever hope to be

horsepower goes further in a 4x4 ;)

If I ever buy another Mk1 it'll be a 4x4.

I'd probably not bother fitting a VRS interior either, 4x4 ones much easier to keep clean! Just the bumpers.

I agree. I wish the vrs was 4x4. Would be so much better.

Well for what it's worth, I blame Steevie Wonder entirely, for my taking the plunge and having my car Jabba'd !! To be fair, he was just minding his own business in the car park outside Jabba and we got chatting.....followed by the guided tour of Steve's car, which at first glance, looks to be pretty standard.......but is far from it!!

And what did I end up with? A mk1 Octavia VRS with an IHI VF34, FMIC, HD clutch etc etc with 323 bhp and 331 ft/lbs of torque . 30,000 miles later and driven every day, it's still running well and has nearly 95,0000 miles on the clock. It averages a genuine 32mpg (the trip computer lies by 10% and says nearly 36mpg) and it runs standard internals with no problems whatsoever.

In the dry it hooks up fantastically and really shoves you forward at just shy of 3,000 rpm in a very smooth and progressive manner. In the wet of course it will wheelspin...especially if you behave like a hooligan, but it's very easy to control and is actually quite amusing. I could probably go and get an LSD but it'd cost me £2k to buy and then have fitted and I doubt it would be worth it. Maybe if the gearbox gives up the ghost I'll go for a 6 speed diesel box and have an LSD in it, but until then I'm not that fussed.

Suspension wise it's got Weitec HD Coilovers and is poly bushed, as is one end of the dog bone. The brakes are standard plain Mintex discs and pads and work great with new brake fluid and a service and the only other addition is a Neuspeed 28mm rear anti-roll bar which has seriously reduced understeer and helped the handling. Wheels used to be 19" RS4 reps but the 235's they came with, scuffed the arches so I had to run them with 215's to get the right load rating....eventually one of rims developed a hairline crack and I lost the will to live.....and found some rather nice deep dish 18's on eBay, which originally came from Australia. Some 10mm spacers got them clearing the calipers and transformed the ride now I've got 225/40/18's on them and actually have some sidewall for a change :whew:

All in all, very happy.......so cheers to Steve for leading me astray!!

Hi mate!!! I said you wouldn't be dissapointed with the results!!!!

Glad everything is working well, the vf34 is a real nice smooth unit with very little lag and a good punch up top.

It's such a good combo, I can't understand why more don't take the plunge and go for it!!

Steve :)

P.s If you ever fancy going bigger with uprated internals I have a £1,600 Garrett (WRC spec roller bearing cartridge) gt30 for sale at 1/4 of it's price!!!

For what you paid i could have sold you a fully forged 2.0ltr with Gt30 setup lol

Nice setup though ;-)

Imo you dont have enough power for a diesel box to be the choice !!! 6 speed petrol with diesel 6th ;-)

It Might run standard internal fine a? the moment but your deffo playing a lottery !!!

Standard brakes Okay lol you dont d?íve hard then lol lol

We'll see. My luck has held thus far and that's inspite of many a 60mph to 120mph overtake  ......allegedly officer. As for the gearbox, I just like the idea of a more leisurely top gear. In 5th at 75mph, mine is on the boost and ready to headbutt the scenery!! It feels like it's in 3rd....but then I suppose that has more to do with having a fair amount of power, rather than short gearing. Mustn't grumble.

The standard brakes do the job but I could do with a bit more bite when slowing from warp speeds. I'd get a big brake kit but the wheels I'm running at the moment are pretty dished and already have 10mm spacers, to clear the calipers and the big brake kits tend to have greater offsets on the calipers than standard. I'll probably fit some EBC Blue Stuff pads or equivalent soon.

And Steve......please stop trying to tempt me over to the dark side.....your work is done!!.....I can be corrupted no more

Forget wheels you need big brakes ;-) i got some brembos going cheap ;-)

Remember a fast ?ar is oné that can stop and go around bends not just straight lines ;-)

Look a? my bits for sále some cheap bits to complement your ?ar ;-)

Braking must be serious fun for yourself!

On a fabia vrs with octy brakes up front i couldn't stop with 220bhp, needed brembo's, cant imagine 320bhp on stock brakes :o

Even my mapped octy's brakes are atrocious :o

If my car reaches that mileage I will be very happy! :giggle:

JUST DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its only money and theres an old saying "you cant take it with you" as long as it makes you happy who cares I have had EVO and Scoobys but Octavia vRS has always been my love

Too many people on here with negative vibes to modding and improving what is already a great car.

Steve

yep money is there to be spent lol

come buy some goodies from me :-)

whats the benifit of the n249 + n112 removal??????
