HID Conversion

Probably, did you only do one side?

Only 1 side. Think that might have been the problem?

Yes

Balls, wish I'd just done both sides now =(

I was curious and been out to fit both HIDs but they still flicker and go off when the engine is running. Guess it's must be the coding then.

Getting that done this weekend.

Fingers crossed, I'll let you know how it goes.

I know this has been discussed before, but what is the recommendation for bulb temperature? I am looking at the ones Pagey fitted to his car.

I have the same as pagey they are 5000k.

4300k is OE, I have 6000k and they are just slightly blue...

As mentioned 4300k is OEM, but I went for 5000k as imo they offer the purist 'white' light without compromising light output, I looked at 6000k but felt they started on the blue path a little to much, the 5000k also match my LED sidelights and DRL's perfectly!.

I took the 6000k with mine, if they end up looking too blue I'll go for the 5000k ones.

Need to get my car coded first though :@

Got the coding done by johal87 they work a treat.

I can't find the list of members who can recode the car for me. Can somebody point me in the right direction?

I did notice that the list was a little out of date, some of the members on there have been inactive for a while

Ive ummmed and arrrd about joining in with this thread but thought I'd clarify the whole legality of xenon OEM vs aftermarket.

RainbowFore is absolutely correct in his initial post, Ive been an automotive lighting engineer for over 20 years now and his post is perfectly correct!

The situation is simple; ECE Regulation 98 and 99 for discharge lamps and Regulation 48 covers the installation requirements requires that headlamps shall self level (by motor or vehicle) and that a system shall be in place to wash a required percentage of illuminated surface area (aka headlamp washers!)

The fact is when a vehicle leaves the factory it is type approved with a level of equipment and as such without revalidating (which is possible by the way) could leave you open to legal or insurance issues.

....which leads me to my next comment, "mdon" im afraid that you are mistaken about your 2008 Laguna being xenon without levelling or washers! I am quite familiar with this car and I can only assume that you are not the 1st owner as I can assure you that it did not leave the land of cheese with xenons without the 'other bits' fitted!

It is however possible to retrofit a set of OE xenon lamps to a non-xenon vehicle which is one possibility; this is not too likely as people are reluctant to mess with vehicles to that level while under warranty.

mdon, have you confirmed that you have a headlamp adjustment dial on your dash? And if that’s there have you confirmed that the lamps have the ballasts mounted to them and that you do indeed have the discharge burners?

The argument regarding the MOT changes is always going to be contentious and as stated it will probably be if the washers are fitted the will need to function as will the levelling.

But basically if you get a wise MOT tester he is in his right to fail you if you have an aftermarket kit!

I love it when someone comes in half way through a post and tells us things we already know. Looks like we will never get a HID thread without someone quoting if they are legal or not lol

Can someone confirm that the facelift Octavia vRS uses H7 bulbs in the dipped beam?

I am pretty sure it is, check here ... http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/Skoda-Car-Bulbs.html

I have seen that but I've looked at other models (which I know) and I have found errors on that site

just wanted to know from someone who has changed one / looked at theirs

the FL halogen headlamp low beam is a H7
  • 2 weeks later...

Just thought I'd show you guys the full HID conversion that Ive made to my FL Octy!

I removed the halogen projector unit from inside the housing and replaced with a Hella Xenon projector complete with OE D2S and Hella ballast!

The Halogen, Xenon and even Bi-Xenon projectors all have the same mounting footprint so an easy installation...although the Bi-Xenon shutter soleniod will not fit into the Octys frame so I couldnt use it

Anyway a good result...ive added some images here...
