Drivers mirror lens flew off!

Featured Replies

I thought that I was starting to enjoy my Skoda motoring, but yesterday another niggle took the edge off that enjoyment. Driving along the motorway, the drivers side mirror started to vibrate, then wobble, and finally detach itself, all in the space of around thirty seconds!

Looking back on this forum, it seems to be fairly common, so where is the best place to get a replacement lens?

enter BRISK25 for 25% discount ( they are a brisky sponsor )

Cheers for that, where do you enter the discount code?

Andy

Order online then when you come to enter details there is a box for promo code, you can opt to pick up at a branch also

I hate to seem a bit thick here, but when you say order online, do you mean via Ebay or some other method, because I can only find them on Ebay, and I still cannot see where to enter a discount code (not the redemption code down by the amount, because that didn't work)

Andy - having a bad morning.

Also, I cannot see where their branches are?

I had this start a few weeks ago - luckily it din't fall off by the time I got home so I was able to pull it off the black backing and refix it with small blobs of epoxy resin. Since then the heating up function has not weakened the new adhesive.

But wouldn't you think this problem would have been known and corrected long ago?

I had never heard about them coming off till a few weeks ago, I replaced mine (stuck like hell) because they were getting brown spots on like a bathroom mirror , they were 6 years old

Mine was 3.5 yrs old - maybe they changed the glue since yours.

Mine seemed to have been stuck on with raspberry jam

Just had a thought - happens occasionally - has anyone had trouble with a passenger side door mirror? Seems to always be drivers' side.

I suppose that is one which gets slammed( the door ) more often, they are not glued on just a cup and grabber , see here

It is the actual lens which has come adrift on mine, leaving all that stuff intact, covered by what looks like a black, spongy material, which the lens must have been glued to.

Same as mine - the bit that came off looked like a shaped piece mirror glass - there was no metal or fixtures attached to the back.

The metal panel it was stuck to had a kind of thin black plasticky coating that was getting scruffy and fragmented. It was as if the black stuff could have been some kind of double-sided adhesive material that had remained stuck to the machinery but not to the silvered side of the glass.

I made sure my epoxy attached it back to small areas that were free of the black stuff i.e. direct to the metal back plate or whatever it is.

Thats the stuff. When I get my mirror glass, I will have to make sure that the epoxy is holding the important bit in place.

It would seem that the motor industry is quite used to selling us cars with untested parts on board nowadays. This is the first time ever that I have lost a mirror glass.

Me too, I was on the M40 heading home from Oxford and couldn 't imagine why the blooming mirror was waggling about - I thought someone had hit the casing while I'd been parked a while earlier. Daft I call it.

Hope the engine is held in a bit better!

p.s. when you fix the glass, use tape to hold it exactly in place while the epoxy sets - mine (IDev Con) takes about 10 minutes out of doors.

I used masking tape plus little bits of card packing between the glass edge and the housing. Worked fine.

I am afraid that the saga continues.

More emails to the Ebay seller, and only one reply testerday, saying that it should have arrived (No **** Sherlock!), and another request to check my address details - I am totally hacked off now.

So, I went on the EuroParts site and ordered another (using the discount code), and took a walk (three miles) over there to collect it. Just got home, drenched, to find that it is not the right shape or size - no guesses for what I said.

I will now phone EuroParts and ask them to remove the item from their website, and then try to get a refund/exchange.

Meanwhile, have any of you folks had the trouble which I am having, because what with the replaced clutch/SMF and now this, I am getting a little brassed off.

Maybe you got the mirror glas for the FL Octy as I believe they made the mirrors bigger due to EU legislation?

Did you enter your registration , they do not list mine and did not at the time, which is why I bought from Skoda

I went by the vehicle details, because the reg number was not recognised.

I went by the vehicle details, because the reg number was not recognised.

I would be more worried that my reg was not recognised, I enter not just mine but many others,( depot near me) and comes up fine every time

You probably have a M2 car, they do not do one for it , if you had entered your reg it would have shown the model. I have just entered a reg of my mates M1 vRS and comes up with this, I pressume yours is a M1 , if it is a M2 very early, then you have got one for a m1 http://www.eurocarparts.com/car-mirror

Like I said earlier I would be worried your reg does not correspond with a car. As you have a car reg when both models were sold, I would have rung the telephone number to check 1st, it is not their fault if you made no stipulation as to which model you have. Sorry for your long walk in the rain though, how come you did not go in the car ?
