New car...but how do you break the news?

Featured Replies

So...having looked around and settling on a smart forfour brabus I put a deposit down, thrashed out a deal and sorted finance. So excited...however..during this time I kinda forgot to tell SWMBO...so today I took her to have a look. She hated it...it looks like a "tonka" toy..is too small and we couldnt go on holiday in it. We do have a renault scenic but apparently it is not economical enough to use for things like holidays!! So now I'm in a dilema...ignore her and carry on with the deal or listen to her and pull out and keep my slightly dull Cee'd. 99% of the time there is only me in it anyway! My cee'd is a 57 plate with 54k on it. The brabus is a 56 plate with 83k on with a full mercedes history. Its so fun to drive and Im gutted she hates it...so peeps what would you do?

Sell the Scenic, give her the Cee'd and enjoy the Brabus. Job's a good'un ;)

Chris

Find a use for it. Anything. It doesnt have to be good, just enough to keep SWMBO happy. That's how I got my first classic car. I've got 12 now :D

I won't repeat in here what SWMBO would say if I gave her a C apostrophe D.

Get to know the missus better, before you go shopping on your own. :x

Nah, I'm an imposter ;) Not had a Skoda for a good few years (since 2005?) and I suspect if people knew what I was driving now I'd be shunned

Chris

Lol @ Chris

Funny that , sure you fried yours that very same year didnt you lol

Well with the help of a certain tuning company !

Buy her a sensible car too. Job done, you are both happy. :)

Btw chris. What are you in now? Still the bugs

Nah think you're mixing me with someone else ;)

Chris

It may just be me, but, its my money, i do what i want. and if she doesnt like it, she knows I'm not forcing her to stay...

My missus never kicked off when I bought my car (not even about the price and we're saving up for our own place). She doesn't particularly like it that much.

She can do the same, if the thinks she likes a car, it's her money, she can have it if she wants.

Now, if we were splitting the cost, then that's different ;)

The wife wanted some sort of jeep so to keep the peace I bought a black octavia vrs that he hates

Have you sought legal advice yet - matrimonial proceedings can cost a small fortune :(

Man up and just buy it. And with all that extra spare time you'll have, from lack of bedroom activities, you get to drive it loads :)

Lol k ur confusing me?

You did meet up with me and gav ye?

I am sorry but all you "butch" chaps saying "man Up" etc are selfish and probably would not dare to do as they wish without consulting SWMBO. A marriage is supposed to be a partnership , we combine our incomes we dont have "her money" and his money" how can you have a true partnership if you do not share everyting , you might as well be single if that is how you operate.

2005 is a while back and my memory isn't so good, but I'm still pretty sure you're confusing me with someone else

Chris

Lol no worries. Sorry mate.

Must be then , i know the chris im on about lived in brighouse anyway.

If/when I get married, that way of doing it makes sense! Those things that have to be shared get paid for 50-50, other things are bought separately. If we need separate cars, buy what you want, if it has to be shared, we buy together.

We personally live by this rule but if both individuals are happy then who cares?

He said in his original post though that HE is paying, which would imply they don't combine incomes. Therefore it's his money, his choice. If she wants to have a say she should stump up some cash.
