vrs tsi - which fuel best (can of worms i know)

Featured Replies

So now i've found i've got a tsi not tfsi engine, time to open the can of worms thread, what fuel due other vrs tsi drivers find these like the best, refinement and pulling power

V-power

Vpower but tfsi and I run stage 1 map

Always preferred this in my cars even a standard mini Cooper just made the difference art the top end

Tesco Momentum 99 as I cannot tell the difference between that and any other super unleaded (including V Power)

V-power or BP ulimate is the best fuel

Never rated BP ultimate. It's only 97ron now I believe.

TSI just as happy on 95 ron.

re bp ultimate yes it only 97 ron now, i asked bp, they pulled 102 ron couple years back, so still vpower or momentum then, just hard to justify the price per litre difference for vpower over momentum when both 99ron.

others saying tsi runs fine on 95 ron as this engine don't need the extra ron ?

Am sure it will run fine, just not as responsive or eager.

Diesel ;)

Normal 95ron for me. Have tried vpower, super unleaded etc and can't say I notice any difference.

Same here with my TSI... if anything car runs better, smoother and better mpg on 95RON

I am running revo stage 2 on performance mode 3. I used to only fill up withTeso 99 but after experiencing multiple cylinder misfire on 3 separate occasions, I switched to V-Power, it's not happened again since.

Standard Tesco (club card points!) 95 RON for me.......... cant tell any difference in performance or consumption using higher Octane.

Maybe i'll run a few tanks of V power and get it on the same Rollers to see if the power/torque increases at all. sadly enough I am that interested in finding out!

vpower... tbh I have never put anything else in, in nearly 3 years of ownership. What was in the tank at delivery (little) was the only other if it was not vpower (unlikely) and was topped up after the 1st mile to the shell garage on the way home.

I find this a bit funny given about 18 years ago I got a letter published in Autocar questioning the difference between supermarket and shell saying was it really worth the difference and that I would always choose supermarkets over premium fuels! I got a response in the magazine the week after from Shell giving the usual patter on its superiority! Arhh... how times and cost have changed!! :)

Mine's not remapped, but I'm sure I can tell the difference when I put V-Power in (although it seems happy to run on 95RON). Weirdly the MPG also seems to drop with V-Power - I suspect more to do with my right foot than the octane rating though. . .

Any super unleaded fuel will be better in the octavia and any other car for that matter compared to 95, better detenation and better mpg.

Total exellium or v power in mine.

Runs pants on 95

BP Ultimate as its the only super I can get nearby, but the car definitely likes it better than regular, its a lot more noticable in my car now its tuned, when stock I could tell any difference...

TSI just as happy on 95 ron.

I agree. Used to use 99 Momentum in my 1.8TSI (stage 1 remap) but in all honesty can't tell the difference so use 95 RON now.

@ OP, can you confirm which engine you have? The title mentions Tsi, but in your signature you have a Tfsi.

I also only ever use Momentum, partly for convenience and for the club card points.

32.5 mpg from a Tfsi with a stage 1 map is not bad at all, imho, and from what I can see, stever750 isn't suggesting everyone should rush out for Tesco fuel due to it's economy....................and lets face it, we don't buy these cars for economy, do we?
Do you get more points for Momentum over and above those from the cost??

Hope so, gives me another reason to change.

Use Momentum in the Fabia VRS but Octavia VRS TSI should run fine on 95 octane so unless you need the etra additive I gather and in Momentum but should not need it for the Octane rating. If the Octavia VRS is tuned or a but coked up it might beneifit from Momenum I suppose and it is still cheaper than diesel unlike other high octanes so pretty good value if it can help power or consumption by 3 or 4% or more!
