  • Here's the prototype, so to speak. 76mm from the front to the filter box. I was actually surprised, you can feel the difference when driving.

Mine was in a different location - towards the back of the bulkhead, other side of the throttle body.

Might be the fact that yours is right hand drive. Nearly tore me hair out when I dissembled that british vRS at the local scrapyard. Nothing was where it was supposed to be.

Ta, mate. The white gunk wont be visible once I'm done.

Unfortunately, no. Its an OEM part manufactured by BT Tuning for Biltema.

They're 100SEK (8.42 quid) a piece. I could ship you one if you're interested.

This is so much better that the PD160 rip off! They are £100 here :/

How much is it to ship?

I'll look into it, mate. Gimmie a day or so, its Ascension Day today and the post office is closed.

EDIT: Checked on the web. Its 305SEK, which is £25.02 GBP by current rates. Reckon that's a bit steep.

That's what I originally used - But then I realised that under heat after a while the alu ducting becomes brittle, and obviously alu next to the coolant pipes absorbs heat.

Instead, I eventually changed it for:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/102mm-Black-Neoprene-Air-Ducting-Hot-Cold-Feed-F1-Flexible-Hose-Pipe-1-2-Metre-/170708309694?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27bf0216be#ht_1745wt_854

Which keeps the heat out of it.

Interesting mod...would the intake pipe need to be that diameter though? I know more volume is a good thing, but that intake is larger than the air tube from box to TB...so in theory surely, it'd bottleneck there?

It would bottleneck more at the Throttle Body - but what you get is positive air pressure all the way up to the TB with this and masses more cold air than stock. Any size direct cold feed would be an improvement, I just decided on the largest diameter into the box to take advantage of further tinkering down the line (read below)

Intake pipe (100mm ID) > filter > air tube (72mm ID) > throttle body (54mm ID) > intake manifold

However...

If you swap the TB for something a little less restrictive... It's even more fun ;)

definitely gonna have a crack at this when i get time!! everyone so far mentions positive gains from doing it!

Honestly - it's like driving a different car!

Okay thanks buddy! I'll look into it a bit more..

Did you notice much of a change in fuel consumption?

I do believe I've seen one swapped with a Golf part somewhere...heh.

Unrelated, but how do you get the TB "top hat" off on the 1.4mpi? I have a tin of carb cleaner that has a date with ours...

theres 3 hex bolts holding the "top hat" :giggle: over the throttle body. once you undo those the whole thing can be pushed out the way and u have access to the throttle body.

Now that I stopped enjoying the new found power, I think it has actually gone down a bit. The idle is not as rough either. I think the skoda engineers were slightly off with their math, and in its original condition, the engine gets less air than it should.

It was designed to run lumpy (especially from cold) - the flap on the original ducting would only change once the engine got up to temp so what you'll currently find is that you're running a bit richer until that point - at which point fuelling will level out a bit more after the temp sensor has recognised that the engine temp is ok.

Alright, that makes sense. But why the hell would the design it to run like that? That's what always bugged me. Why would you make it worse on purpose?

Euro emissions regs.

We've probably got the strictest emission regs in europe and its not even remotely risking to fail. Now I know its an old engine, but this is ridiculous.

It's true though...

Poor really.

Also, the exhaust gas recirc from the rocker cover? Yeah, that's rubbish. Vent to a catch can and block up the hole on the top hat. It'll stop your throttle body getting gunked up again ;)

I have no idea what you're on about, mate. Can you clarify?

Also, did you look into how much the shipping is for the TB?

Pipe going from the rocker cover to the plastic cover on top of the intake near the throttle body. It carries exhaust gas and oil vapour from the engine (another emissions requirement) - but what it really does is cools by the time it gets to the throttle body and the oil sticks to the throttle body, gunking it up.

disconnecting it from there, blocking up the hole with something and attaching some sort of catch can on the other end of that pipe is a method of preventing that happening again :)

I've alo found the hose between rocker cover and throttle softens due to oil contamination.

I figure you should be ok putting something like this on the rocker cover http://www.ebay.co.u...=item27bb7ad5d2 and blocking up the hole on the other end.

Lovely day today meant I got time to attach my new intake!!

All I can say is...what a difference. who would have thought a £6.99 piece of ducting could make such a difference!

Just don't know what to do with the warm air intake pipe now!! :p

Smooth power output in all gears and a lot more 'grunt'

cheers to all the input especially Chris and DaKKs.
