Galaxy S3

If anyone is considered going down the iPhone route (NOOOOOO!) you'd be wise to wait for the iPhone 5 which will be out later this year. The 4/4S is looking seriously dated now, especially with a poxxy 3.5" screen which is easily cracked...

I agree waiting for the iPhone 5 - it's rumoured to boast a curved-screen, at at 4 and a bit inches, is bigger than the old.

That being said, i dont want a HUGE screen; had a play with a friends Galaxy Note last weekend, and WOW is it BIG!

I'm an iPhone 4s user, my wife a 4 and my dad a 3g. They all do what they set out to, with not too many frills and yes, you can fit it into your pocket - between us, we've never cracked a screen.

  • Well I tried out HTC's One X which is a similar size and didn't get on with it. How on earth do you type quickly if you have one hand tied up solely supporting the phone? I find the One X too big and

  • Well you should have checked ICS out BEFORE you downgraded!!!! ICS is a bit of a mess across the board at the moment for smartphones.....S2 works just great on Gingerbread, fast and smooth with RSAP

Just don't accept any so called upgrade of the OS. Personally I wouldn't touch one for the foreseeable future, until the phone fashionista's & early adopters have paid the most money & found

Due to the galaxy S2 being so thin and light its really easy to put so your pocket, been a few times I thought id lost it lol

I have an s2 and will be getting an s3

Things to maybe consider are samsungs relationship with google, my ICS update was 2 months earlier than my mates sensation. Also there seems to be a growth in NFC if this spurts and the whole world has it and you dont a 2 year contract could be a ball ache

As for form over function look at the rear of the s2, thin terrible plastic, however good reception and fits nicely in your pocket

NFC is a security mess. I know people who've had cards cloned and their nfc phone details copied. easy to do in a lift!

until they sort that not a seller for me.

More fool you then. Samsung's customer service is bloody abysmal, their Kies software is rubbish.

I bought a SGS2 sim-free, as I didn't want to be tied into a contract, I like every sim-free owner should have by rights been the first to get ICS, however Samsung decided that we were to be the last, that's despite sim-free users paying for the phone upfront!

Now I have ICS, my phone is bug ridden and constantly freezing, due to Samsung's abysmal version of ICS being bug ridden trash. I have complained to them, where have I got? Nowhere!

Will I be buying a SGS3? Nope. It's plasticky, has an awful case with no grip texturing on the back which will mean it will be dead easy to drop & damage, especially if the bezel is as thin as it is, their customer service sucks BIG TIME, their batteries are poor, their software rubbish.

Want anymore reasons NOT to buy one or are you just a blind phone fashionista?

I like kies air, mine never freezes and it has only ever not lasted a day when i have been super bored and smashed angry birds

I guess its personal, I couldnt ever be locked down by Apple, HTC i think are losing the niche for android and will lose customers as their handset move closer to apple

There is talk of a new nexus, I still want to play with a s3 before I commit but my gut tells me ill go s3

I've tempered my obsession with the S3 and like most, I'll wait till I can play with it in the shop first. It is about 10mm taller than my LG 2X so I'll see what it's like in the pocket. As I think it pushing the boundaries of my pockets!

I'll wait 2-3 weeks after it comes out to, hopefully dip under £500 notes SIM free and I'll see if I still want it.

I wanted face unlock, so I upgraded without any problems apart from being unable to use sky go, luckily netflix still works lol

If someone decide to update to the new S3 and would like to sell his/hers pristine, well looked after, scratch free screen S2 with a reasonable price in mind please get in touch :) I am in need of a "new" SIM free unlocked phone for my other half.

totally agree my phone on ICS is awesome!, my brother has an s2 also and there isnt ICS available yet (both on o2) so perhaps there are differences between phones, having a lemon is no reason to judge the whole 120 million handsets

If he has the S2 with NFC (GT-9100P) O2 finally rolled out the ICS update for that a week and a bit ago so he might want to check again on Kies :)

Chris

Yup got mine last week for o2

works really well until after you get bored of it, i used for approx 20 mins whilst showing off then went back to the matrix thingy

Got my SGS3 in white today... I did have a blue one on order but after all the fuss couldn't wait the extra couple of weeks as I'd sent my old phone to mazuma

It's a very nice phone.. ;)

Personally I wouldn't touch one for the foreseeable future, until the phone fashionista's & early adopters have paid the most money & found all of the bugs for me and done the "in the field testing".

Wouldnt touch Samsung at all until they change their attitude to current/past owners.

After 6 months there's a new phone, and yours is forgotten bugs and all.

paradigm of change, essential for the whole of the human race

Dont knock it ...embrace it

Picked up a used Galaxy SII for 150 notes and flashed Cyanogenmod9 ROM to it. The S3 can go swivel :-D I dislike Touchwiz anyway.

I also got mine yesterday. I did however go in store on Tuesday first to play with one. After playing with the One X and being an avid HTC fan I’m very impressed with it. The new Touchwiz is loads better than the old one and I actually prefer it over Sense!

Glad I’ve waited and chose this over th HTC actually.

One of my favourite phones was the Palm Treo 650. a touch screen and a physical keyboard.

I went from that to an iPhone 3GS and now have the 4S and probably will end up with the new iPhone when it arrives.

I personally like them but realise they are not every bodies cup of tea, even if it feels like it is when you go around London and everybody seems to have an iPhone .....

I got my paws on a s3 today in tescos, and if im honest it was lovelly

not revolutionary but nice, the screen is awesome on the vids they have on there to show it off, and the floating video is a nice but a gimmic,

nothing slows it down though so quick even compared to the s2

Had a.play with the HTC X and acnd S3 in Vodafone yesterday side by side.

To me speedwise they were pretty much the same. Personally I find sense has more shortcuts and quicker ways to do things.

They each have their own things they do better than the other, but both seem evenly matched on camera and CPU speed on what I could test.

The only plus for me is the S3 you can swap the battery angst there's and sd slot. BUT at the cost of touchwiz and questionable software support based on Samsung's previous form in this area.

Are the custom Roms also still mostly from Russia and Eastern Europe?

  • 2 weeks later...

Came very close to ordering one in blue SIM free. Head says no, techie in me says do it.

Rumours are there is a spare slot on the HTC One's to enable a card slot to easily be added in production, and that some US network versions will have this slot.

Cant find anything concrete though.

Do it. You know it makes sense (not the HTC kind). A friend got a blue one last Friday and its very nice. The only thing it shows every little scratch or mark.
