Galaxy S3

Featured Replies

I like the SD slot and swappable battery, but as above Samsung support has a history of being poor and cutting it when the next phone is launched.

My ideal would be a Sensation, but they are still silly money new and SIM-Free where as the One is £450 and the Galaxy £500 just for the 16gb.

  • Well I tried out HTC's One X which is a similar size and didn't get on with it. How on earth do you type quickly if you have one hand tied up solely supporting the phone? I find the One X too big and

  • Well you should have checked ICS out BEFORE you downgraded!!!! ICS is a bit of a mess across the board at the moment for smartphones.....S2 works just great on Gingerbread, fast and smooth with RSAP

Just don't accept any so called upgrade of the OS. Personally I wouldn't touch one for the foreseeable future, until the phone fashionista's & early adopters have paid the most money & found

As an ex htc owner I can confirm the s3 is quite simply outstanding. The screen is great for reading web pages, ebooks, and newspapers etc videos look really good. Other really good touches are things like if you are looking at a contact or a text but decide to call the person, lift the phone to your ear and it dials automatically.

I haven't bothered with touchwiz as I use another launcher that I already have on my work phone. Means I have the same interface for both phones

Lad at work just got an s3, we stuck a pic of Dom jolly on his desk with his big phone and left a sack cart there too! Seems a good phone though other than size.

It's marginally bigger than the s2. When I see iphone sized phones on now think "wow, tiny screen, how can you read that? "

TBH after playing with the HTC and S3 in a Vodafone a few weeks ago, then going otside and surfing the web I did find myself increasing the zoom to read pages.

The desire seems so small.

One question is have samsung messed with the browser, or do all ICS handsets have raw Chrome as the default browser?

Well I don't have chrome on mine. Default android and I use opera

You mean default Samsung one?

Chrome is still just optional.. Samsung have their own optimized version of the stock browser.

Having had mine for a couple of weeks now, i really like it.. its much better than the SGS2 was "out the box" - ive only come across two issues so far, - it wont pair with my car kit (although the kit is running really old firmware so cant blame the phone)

Also trying to copy to clipboard from chrome and certain other apps crashes the app - i had the same issue on several ICS roms on the SGS2 so might be a ICS issue rather than samsung.

Ive also just ordered a bunch of NFC tags to mess about with.. plan is to have one stuck on wall at home, desk at work and on car dash, then can use them to change settings on the phone.

Where did you buy the nfc tags from? I fancy doing just what you describe. Showed my s3 to a couple of devoted apple fanboy colleagues yesterday and they admitted that it is a really stunning screen though they hated the fact that every android phone is different ie layout all customised.

There's an app called "Profile Scheduler+" which does a great job of this automatically.

Limited free version link (also has full version link) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wetpalm.ProfileScheduler&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd

I got them from rapidnfc - and have been messing about with an app called nfc task launcher (or macrodroid) - ive gone for the NTAG203 ones.. got 10 for just over a tenner once the extortionate delivery and VAT is added.

Does SGS3 support Bluetooth R-SAP profile? I use my HTC HD2 in my Octavia, and am seriously considering the SGS3, but if it will not link up then there is no point. Samsung does not say. I've sent tehm an email as they have an unanswered question in their Ask & Answer section.

My other concern is as to how bright the screen is. I looked at one in O2 today, and was shocked to find it not as bright as my HD2. Browsing the BBC web site, the background looked off-white, not white as it was on my HD2. I'd been browsing whilst walking down into town, and if I couldn't do taht it is not a usable phone for me. Was it a bad screen, or are they really a bit dull, which would mean not very usable outside?

Android doesn't support r-SAP natively, you'll need to either root your phone or use a specialist app.

The SIII has lots of power saving options relating to the screen settings -these are enabled by default and are not just to do with brightness, some relate to contrast etc. The screen on the SIII can go very bright if you want it to. I did find the dim screen a bit annoying until I found the settings to change it -some of the settings are controlled from within the browser. The battery life is great on the SIII anyway.

I might be wrong but r-SAP is not supported in ICS although it did work in Froyo and Gingerbread

Just got that answer from Samsung too.
In response to your query, please be advised that Google's Android 4.0 operating system does not support the rSAP bluetooth protocol. Google may choose to add this feature in a future update for his OS, however we do not have any further details at this time. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

t would be useful if you could point me to "a specialist app". I've read about rooting, but that mostly seems to just make it stock so you can load a version of android other than the Samsung overlayed verson of ICE.

How backward, asmy HD2 is Wondows Mobile 6.5, an "old fashioned" system. Is it any wonder I see so many people now holding their phones whilst driving, if you cannot connect them to your expensive car sytem without having to jump through hoops?

Issue4402: rSAP / Sim access bluetooth profile 1829 people starred this issue.

(Found this in a search through google, but not to be seen on the android site. It seems rather a lot of people are fed up with this.)

UPDATE:

Windows phone 7.5 does not support rSAP.

Correct me if I'm wrong - if using a phone NOT compatible with remote sim access profile you can still connect a phone via Bluetooth and make and receive calls with the Skoda system, but you will not have the full range of features such as phone book synchronisation and text messages on the car's display. You can still manually add numbers to the car's phone book and use those.

I have a Parrot kit fitted and that syncs up just fine with anything that I've tried. I also use an app called 'SMS, my car and me' which reads out my texts via Bluetooth audio -I've got this app set to automatically launch when it pairs up with the Parrot

My HTC Desire syncs the phone book just fine on the VW kit in the Sharan - and that's a rasp kit according to the manual?

Unless you are running ICS -Android version 4 on your Desire which I very much doubt then it will be fine as the older versions of Android support rSAP. Most Desires are running Android 2.2 (Froyo).

This is what all the uproar is about that Google have dropped this feature in their newer versions of Android
