High timing pull? Why? 3rd gear log attached

Featured Replies

Ive just done some logs on my mates mk1 VRS, From what I can see boost and MAF look ok. TIming looks high though? What can cause this? Ive read anything over 6 is bad? Car is 100% standard. Ive attached logs of 115,020,003 and also 118,031,003. Can anyone shed any light on the issue? He has had a problem with revs not dropping when changing gear thats why we did some logs.

Sounds like pre-ignition is occuring if it's running on at high revs when it should be dropping (between gear changes). That would explain why the timing is being pulled as well, to try and minimise the pre-ignition.

I can't open the logs at the mo and am just off on holiday for a week but things I would suggest cause pre-ignition are too hot spark plugs and intake temps too high, possibly engine running too hot as well.

sounds like a case of water meth required:>

what fuel you running as that looks like a lower octane fuel

when did you change the fuel filter??

He had just filled up with std shell fuel before we set off, Dont know about fuel filter? Maybe worth a try. Hes going to get some new plugs tomorrow see if that helps

i would advise you run a tank of super and change the fuel filter and run the check again
