1.2 Oil Filter Change

Featured Replies

Just wondering whether there is a special tool to remove the 1.2 oil filter and also whether there is another special tool to install the 1.2 oil filter at the correct torque? I don't seem to have any current tools that are of any use.

Cheers...

You want something like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Profile-Filter-Socket-36mm-Drive/dp/B000ROB0RG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1337592466&sr=8-3

Pretty sure that's the correct size, but measure/check before you buy.

I made something similar which you'd be welcome to borrow if you happen to live anywhere near Oxford/Abingdon.

I wouldn't worry too much about the torque setting though, Can't really imagine it coming undone even if just done up barely more than finger tight TBH.

Many thanks!

How do I measure/check the size so that I get the correct one? Ie what does the size refer to and exactly what should I be measuring on the nut?

Also how does this type of socket work? Does it work with an ordinary wrench like the sort supplied with a socket set? If so I'm not sure if there is enough room to get this socket and a wrench over the filter, maybe wrong though, but it looks pretty tight!!

Thanks again...

The measurement I was suggesting is this one:

So 36mm is the correct size socket, as I thought.

Yes that tool is designed to fit on a standard 3/8" ratchet; if necessary with an extension bar to clear obstructions.

Having looked at this again I can see now why someone asked recently if the torque was really 255Nm!

Not sure quite what that is trying to say; looks like 25 + 5 Nm??? Quite why Skoda chose to put such confusing notation on there I don't know. 25.5Nm seems ridiculously precise, 5Nm might well be enough, but then what does the 25 mean? :wonder:

Haynes reckons 25Nm, I reckon that's plenty, it's all plastic after all.

Good luck with it.

Thank you so much mate, both are really helpful posts.

I picked up a genuine filter last night, now to source the 36mm socket and I will get the job done asap using the 25Nm torque...

I did do a filter change on the Fabia last year and it was a real ballache without the correct tools, trying to bodge bits together mid job to get the filter off and on (after draining oil from the sump and this being my only car etc). Hopefully it should now be a far more easier and less time consuming process! Many thanks again...
