Gearbox problems- Big problems now- Big bill

Just got off the phone with them and had a right good chat with the guy there. Comforting to hear they know so much about these cars anyway.

The gearbox is off and already at the gearbox place.

He said it looks like it has been off before and been fiddled with somehow. All sealant round it etc.

Turn around is usually about a week.

Ordering a Sachs clutch and flywheel now and they will supply the slave cylinder as euro car parts don't have it in stock.

I'm concerned that the gear oil the seat garage sold me was the wrong stuff and for the 5 speed box. The oil I was sold was G060726A2 but believe it should be the G052 stuff for 6 speed boxes.

Well that was easy.. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/223127-octavia-mkii-gearboxclutch/page__view__findpost__p__2642637 West Yorkshire Transmissions in Bradford

  • TBH I'd probably look at getting the box rebuilt and a bit of a discount from the dealer. You've no idea how a second hand box would be without taking it apart anyway.

Heard from the garage.

The gearbox is no good and can't be reconditioned.

Couple of gears have disintegrated, damage to casing and some missing pins etc!

Going to exchange for a fully reconditioned box.

£485 + vat.

Ordered the clutch, DMF and slave cylinder. Got a very timely 25% off code from ECP that is valid on clutches etc. £361 in total for those bits.

Still wanna cry... lol

Ouch!

Not good at all :(

No it's not. But actually we were being quoted around £480 + vat for fully rebuilding our box so I don't think the price for an exchange one is too bad.

It will probably be in much better condition than ours as ours has apparantly been off before and bodged a bit.

It's cheaper at the moment to get this car fixed so we can have a car back and go ahead with our driving/camping holiday to Germany in September.

We are looking at getting a lease car through work in the future though. Probably a Fabia 1.2 TDi Greenline. But for now the mighty Cordoba should live to tell the tale... just with our wallets a little lighter...
