Stream cleaner on seats?

Featured Replies

Anyone tried this? Thought I'd ask before I trundle up in the loft to get mine down and have a go on the seats since its a sunny day..

did it work?

Seen my progress thread? I did my rear seats last night with some foam.

Yup, I have. :) but that requires elbow grease lol, I tried it with my portable steamer which has a jet spout. It seems to leave the dirt in streaks which was a start I suppose. It requires more effort to get the proper clothing steamer out from the loft for an experiment so thought i'd ask here first before giving it a go. I'll come back with results later unless someone swoops in and give me an answer beforehand...

Doesn't work :(, gonna try wet and dry vacuum tomorrow.

My pet vax got a lot of grubiness out of my seats, and it didn't leave them too damp as it just foams up the solution and vacuums it up again. Seats were dry within a couple of hours.

You need something to lift the dirt/grease out of the fabric. I've used Virosol to clean bicycle chain oil/grubbiness off the back of my passenger seat. I've also tried using my steam cleaner. It has some effect but 1) the pads/cloths get dirty quickly and 2) you have to give them a real going over several times.

The ultimate is obviously to machine wash them.

Recommendation:

Hire a RugDoctor.

Buy some stardrops

Clean using the handle attachment.

You'll be amazed what comes off!

ive got a vax steam cleaner, and does the job better than a wet dry hoover, the hoover still leaves water marks, get some decent stain remover or G101, and rub the seats down with a brush, then steam clean.. takes time but well worth it. Believe it or not I got red overspray out the white section on the vrs seats with a steam cleaner!

Yeah after having a look in good light it seems to have done an ok job, need something to get the dirt out first though as you say. may go hunting for spray vanish or something which doesn't require elbow grease later on tonight and have a 2nd stab at it.

Trust me - a RugDoctor and some stardrops would do it. £20 to hire a RugDoctor for a night!

And the best bit of a RugDoctor?

You'd be amazed at some of the crud that comes out of the foam itself...

If the seats get wet again, that crud will only seep through to your top cover again.

Got to second a rug doctor .... The small hand attachment they come with is spot on for seats.. :)

sent from my phone....

Will the rug doctor cause rust in springs etc?

Thinking of buying a George ( like a henry hoover but its a wet and dry). Then i can do my bedroom carpet, bed and anything else.

Not at all dany - it wets then sucks all the wet out. And in this weather it'll be dry within an hour!

Rugdoctor .....

Accept no substitutes

When you can hire it for a day for £20 and use some stardrops... Anything else just makes no sense!

The George is great for the cleaning of dust and solids - house or car, but won't deal with ingrained dirt in the seats.
