OEM rear view camera in VRS

Featured Replies

I must admit I used a reversing camera once on a mates ibiza and I couldn't work out how much space I had left. I like the sensors on the Octavia although sometimes I should listen to the flat line rather than try gain a little more space. Also I find it handy as I can watch the kurb and let the car concentrate on the object(s) behind

I have one on my Octy.

Just like sensors, it's all just extra information. Of course you shouldn't reverse JUST by watching the screen, that's asking for trouble. But you can't beat being able to actually see what's behind your bumper.

It's a bit like satnav - no one will really appreciate how useful they are until they've used one. But using satnav doesn't mean you don't have to read the roadsigns, does it?

I bought this one, installed it and it works fine with my Chinese HU.

Removing the boot catch and installing the new one was a doddle. The tricky bit was feeding the wire from the boot lid through to the car. I took mine up to the top of the window and then fed through the rubber pipe and down into the rear of the car.

I installed a separate 12v feed straight from the fuse box and pushed the activation wire into my rear reversing bulb connection. All activates fine when I go into reverse.

I'll probably pick one of those up as I don't want to mess around with CAN problems installing a number plate light camera as the LED is known to cause issues.

One question, I believe that wiring directly into the reversing bulb causes interference lines on the screen due to the CAN 'pulsing' the reverse bulbs. Did you not have this issue? I was looking to wire in a relay and use the reverse signal as the switch to the relay and have a permanent supply from something like the boot light etc?

No interference with mine at all. All I did was firmly push the wire into the back of the reversing light bracket. The beauty of dong it this way is it's not permanent and you can remove if there are any issues. Once I had it in place I taped with electrical tape the wire around an adjacent one to hold it in place.

If the image comes on when you stick it in reverse. When does it go away? Is it as soon as you go out of reverse or does it stay on like the parking sensors until you gain some speed?
